Attackpoint - performance and training tools for orienteering athletes

Development

These are some things in the works.

Features and Changes

recently updated all items
change detail from status
Race It would be nice to have an own link (like shoes, injuries etc.) on attackpoint where all the races are summarised. So that all training sessions I log as workout type „race“ are easily accessible. In this way it would be easier to get an overview on the number of races per year. It would be perfect if I could add my the winner time and my time and the percentage behind the winner is calculated.

Add Garmin GPS traces to my log in chronological order Sometimes I'll capture multiple Garmin GPS traces and the order in which they show up in Attackpoint is different from the order in which I recorded them.

For example, on June 4...
https://attackpoint.org/viewlog.jsp/user_2640/peri...

...the activities were imported with `sessionid` values of:
- sessionid=8315381 - my 1st GPS trace
- sessionid=8315383 - my 2nd GPS trace
- sessionid=8315382 - my 3rd GPS trace

My activities are auto-magically imported to Attackpoint via the Garmin sync, which is great. If they end up in a surprising order, then sometimes I can work around this by changing the `starthour` of the session. On June 4, for example, the three GPS traces were imported in the order [#1, #3, #2], and I was able to resolve the issue by setting a later `starthour` value for GPS trace #3.

I'd _guess_ that what's happening here is that when session data are rendered on the page, their order is based on...
#1. session `sessiondate`
#2. session `starthour`

Single Activity Bar Charts and Injury Correlation In the bar charts showing summaries of monthly and weekly training for a year, create an ability to zero-in on one kind of training activity such as just running, just orienteering, or just cycling. The stacked bars do allow one to see all months or weeks for all activities for a year, and to hover over individual weeks or years for single activities to get a value, but it gets hard to see the trending with the other activities throwing off the alignments of a single activity. It's also be nice to be able to see summary trends across multiple years.

A bonus would be nice to correlate periods of injury, weight, sleep, age, or performance (such as VDOT or orienteering point scores) to the training charts.

More than one SI-card# I suppose if there's a loop economy issue there could reasonably be a limit and the limit could be small...but I think it's a common case to have more than one SI-card. Could multiple #s be saved to Profile and save us from having to 'claim' the same non-primary number repeatedly?

Training Calendar: Training Load In addition to the metrics of distance, duration, climb or controls - add ability to set a "training load" target for a particular training period and be able to see progress toward that target. So rather than applying traditional 'rules of thumb' like not more than 10% increase in distance each week, you could base it on load so that it would be independent of type of training done. Just a thought - probably a very niche idea.

Self-isolating button (next to rest, sick, injured) Similar to the rest button, one saying self-isolating would be nice (I find that neither sick nor rest not injured really apply to the time you are quarantining). Looking back on your training, it would make deliberately taken rest ddays more distinguishable from the time where you were stuck inside, and make a more understandable training log. Anyways, thanks for the great website.

more statistics & planning tool Hi Ken,
it would be nice to get some more statistics and graphics to the period reports.

e.g., a pie chart to show proportion of activity types vs. training hours
or some average values like Ø time per day, Ø km per session per activity type, and so on.

Another big thing would be to have a kind of "training planning tool" where I can enter the planned sessions into a calendar (would be even better if my coach could also enter plans and comments for me).
This would make it a lot easier to compare the planned to the executed training - and it would unite the planning and evaluation of training on one site, so I don't need to use external tools (like excel or google sheets).

best regards

Age Graded runs (and more?) Several times over the past few years I've enjoyed the vdot normalization of my running results here: https://www.attackpoint.org/runperfs.jsp?userid=68...

Now that, ahem, I'm starting to slide down the list with my new results, I think it would be really cool to add a new column of age-grade % that could also be sorted on - to more quick see how my newer results compare to my older ones, as I work to get back into at least as good shape as I can, relative to the world's best.

That might also be an interesting sort option on the inter-person lists - e.g. https://www.attackpoint.org/runperfs.jsp?userid=0&... - to see not just who's fastest M18-39, but fastest vs. the best at their age/gender.

For reference, I've used this when normalizing things myself. There may be newer references as well.

extract best 5 and 10 km (and other "key" distances) from session This is more applicable to running workouts rather than orienteering (or biking) but it would be nice if the faster 5 km and fastest 10 km or whatever distance is extracted from the run. When I run I don't often follow the same route so that would make a nice metric. Kind of like what Strava does (except Strava only kind of does it).

Smoothing in pace/heartrate chart 1) the smoothing applied to the pace/speed chart is odd: it tends to increase (overall, not just some parts) and shift to the right when smoothing is applied. The effect is visible better for higher smoothing windows.

2) some heart rate monitors (typically those mounted on the lid of a wrist watch) give noisy data. Smoothing the hr curve together with the pace curve would make sense.

Way to show AP data on other websites To create training momentum, more club members should start using AP. To do so, a better visibility of trainings of those who already use AP is needed. One of the ways is to allow the AP users and AP group owners to share simple data like weekly training volume of an individual or a group, links to recent activity, last discussion topics with links to threads etc, etc. HTML snippets, XML or JSON,...?

take a look at log widgets: https://www.attackpoint.org/widget/setup.jsp

Default intensity setting When adding manually new session or importing session recorded without hr data intensity site uses site's default values. It would be nice to be able to set that default intensity to most typical for you, for example 2, so you wouldn't always need to hand edit it but only when workout wasn't a typical one.

Would be even cooler to be able to set default as something like 95% intensity x and 5% intensity y. Alternatively it could even use history and set it to most typical intensity you have been logging lately or even make guesstimate based on activity type and history.

Search/Filter activities by shoes/equipment May be a pretty niche suggestion, but also shouldn't be too hard to implement...

I reasonably regularly find myself trying to decide what shoes to wear for racing (and occasionally training) and it'd be handy to be able to click on the item or session count in the shoes list to see the sessions they've been used for. Also useful in trying to work out why those shoes have fallen apart after only 100km...

Possibility to use multiple shoes? Hi!
Started using AP yesterday, but soon realised that it's only possible to use one pair of shoes during an activity. I have added bikes and skis to the shoes-list aswell, and during those activities, I would like to log both skis/bikes and boots/shoes.

Thanks in advance.

'Kudos' Would be very nice to add the ability to give 'kudos' to an activicty. Would mean it is easy to give someone a thumbs up for their training without a comment.

Maybe 'attackpoints' rather than 'kudos'???? So you give some one an attackpoint for their training run that was good.

'Sign up' for events from Events Map page Current workflow for adding events to my list is

* Open each event in new tab
* Select 'Yes'/'No'/'Maybe' from dropdown and update.

Compare Selected Competitor Splits When displaying the splits for all competitors for an event, it'd be helpful to be able to click a check box on just the competitors that one wants to see the splits for. This would visually allow side-by-side comparison of people who finished much further away (often due to one or more competitor's big error on one or 2 legs). In other words, a split list of competitors A-Z could be limited to just competitors B, C, H, and L.

Age Groups for Events When seeing the list of people attending specific Events as self entered into AP, the existing list shows just the user name and ranking with a sort by ranking. It'd be good to show the age groups and have an option to sort by 5 year age group too. For those who aren't listing their age, they could fall into an "Unlisted", "Unknown", or "Other" category. A club designation and option to sort by club might be useful too.

Cumulative TRIMP Can you generate a cumulative total of Training Impulses over a specified period as is done with hours, miles and activity?

Targets Let me call it a bug, just to be provocative.

I bet you most people do no know that the "target" feature exists, at all. I new and to find it I ended up searching with google. (put aside that my brain capacity is low at this moment of a day)

A simple remedy: in the menu in the section "training" add a link "targets" that would display a page with overview of my targets, current, past.

Or even simpler one-liner? Put there a link "add target" and on the first page where the target name is filled-in, explain where to find the existing ones.

A hidden gem!

Water tracker Hello :)

I was wondering is there anyway to add a box near maybe sleep/RHR for water? I think It would be really helpful to be able to track if one is drinking enough water or maybe what a good amount of water was to carry on a run or not. I know i've seen some people use the controls boxes but I'd rather not mess up my control count :) Thanks!

Splits side panes scrolling incorrectly The splits results on Attackpoint have a great freeze panes features, which locks the leg number and the competitor name to the top and side of the page.
However on Ubuntu 14.04 Firefox when I scroll sideways the higher position competitor names don't match up with the corresponding splits as per this picture at the following link.
www.maths.tcd.ie/~rshort/pictures/APsplits.png

It looks like the boxes become slightly too big when they are frozen and the names get shifted as a result.

This seems to work ok in Internet Explorer on Windows so it appears to not be a universal thing.

Display total climb/descent When I upload a GPX file and view it I can see the current elevation and distance and also total distance. Is it possible to also show total climb/descent for each point as well?

This would be useful for finding out how much climb was done in the training session and also allow for working out how much climb per hour was done.

Thank you

Spanish Expansion/Car pooling Hey!

Greg Ahlswede here. I was doing some thinking. Here in Spain people have heard of Attackpoint. Most people think it's a good idea. But for a variety of reasons no one has picked up on it. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it's in English. If you're interested I would like to participate in a localization project of attackpoint to Spanish. Perhaps I could think of some scheme to promote its use also. Any ideas?

Also, I was wondering what are the possibilities of implementing a ride share feature to AP. We have one in Madrid and it works really well to get more people out to events . I see people post threads periodically about rides. I feel like a dedicated feature could help with this.

Just some ideas I had rolling around. Thanks Ken!

preview tracklog It woudl be nice if the little globe to see the track were available on the Add Training page after doing the Garmin Upload. Add injured view when looking at training log When I look in the history to see what I have trained, I cannot see if I was injured or not. Upload a single split from a run I would like to be able to upload a single split from a run, along with its distance/time/climb statistics.

Let's say I track an entire run and take splits at significant points (e.g. when I stop to walk up the final hill to my house). I then want to upload the 'running' part of the track separately from the 'warm-down' part. At the moment I manually edit the distance, time, and climb after uploading the track.

Multiple activity types on log entries It would be nice to include multiple activity types on the same log entry. For example, an entry might include both "Orienteering" and "XC Skiing." I thought of using xc skiing as a sub-type for orienteering, but then it doesn't count toward a skiing training goal. I can add the number of controls to a xc skiing entry, but the time/distance doesn't get counted as orienteering.

Live GPS tracking on a map (individuals, race participants) A map with the current GPS position with a tail of previous data. The data would be sent in a GET request from a GPS-enabled smartphone. (There are applications ready to send GPS data to a given URL, like OsmAnd on Android.)

I would make use of it when going for several days in the mountains to ensure my family. Such a feature is unlikely to be useful for orienteering but it could be used on adventure races: the races are already in the database on AP, thus people that said on AP that they participate in a race, would be included in a 'race' map (if some data are transmitted on the given day [or during a time of a day when the race takes place]).

(sent by email earlier, inserted here to get queued)

Longer shoe names There is a 30-character limit on shoe names and I would love this to be a little longer.

I would like to see slightly more information to be available in the combo box so that I can identify my near-identical shoes in the list. Thirty characters isn't quite enough. Could we have fifty, please?!

My ideal name would be something like:
brand model model-number purchase-month color typical-usage

Add a series of events at once Adding a series of events into Attackpoint can be tedious, especially if they share common data, such as location or webpage.

It would be neat if the Add Events functionality allowed the addition of a series (e.g. My Local Orienteering Club Summer Series or the Regional Five Days of Orienteering Festival). Common data could be added once and then extra event-specific data could be added as appropriate. Finally, I could then say that I'm going and have all weeks'/days' events show up in my Google calendar.

Facebook "compatibility": uploaded results with no associated event... Ken---I discovered this because I uploaded results and didn't associate the splits to an event. In the past, I've just posted this link on facebook:

http://attackpoint.org/uploadsplits4.jsp?raceids=1...

which is the page that displays immediately after uploading. Apparently, that page can only be seen by people who are logged in.

I don't use that when there is an associated event, I just post this link:
http://attackpoint.org/eventdetail.jsp/event_18049

That link always seems to be available to the public.

For the time being, I'm just going to always create an event when there isn't one, but it would be nice to not have to.

No biggie either way---thanks!

Orienteering awards Ken, would it be possible to put a feature on AP that attaches an orienteering award, in an icon form, to your AP name - sort of like war medals or ribbons from campaigns - that is always there for other people to see. There has been discussion recently about orienteering awards and what is useful or appropriate. Seeing as how AP has become THE world wide orienteering discussion forum what better place to showcase your achievements? After all, the people you want most to notice your achievements are likely to be on AP.

Add training by day At the top of the log page is a graph of the previous week's training. Make the days clickable links to "Add training" with the default *that* day.

Having to select the date isn't annoying. Forgetting to select the correct date (aka user stupidity) and having to go back and fix on a regular basis it is annoying.

Weather/Weight/Distance - allow some English, some Metric I prefer by distance in Metric, but other things in English (weight, weather.) link from colored graph to log entries It would be nice to be able to click on an item in the bar graph showing in different colors what training you'd done, and go to that training. Create groups of events It would be helpful to be able to designate a group of events with a convenient tag. A club, for example, might want to indicate its meets for members. It would be a useful addition to the group functionality to designate a set of events; CSU could have the Park-Os and local meets. I'm not sure if it would be better to make this functionality independent of groups; the set of training camps in the US would be a great set of events, but users might not explicitly join the group.

Tags I saw a few suggestions talking about being able to connect a training session to a location or a certain course that you revisit or redo. I have had similar desires (although it is mostly solved by the location search beta, which is great).

Maybe have the ability to tag a log with any words of your choice just like people tag their blogs.

When I revisit an area I don't frequent or even ones that I do I like to go go back and see what I have done there before. Usually I just try to call out the location in the description but that requires using the search feature which works but isn't reliable. (Like I said this is mostly solved with the location feature).

Don't know if this would be easier but wanted to share a different approach to the request. Maybe it could pull up just the stats from those training sessions for comparison like GregBalter suggested

Allow multiple sports for an event listing As there are some events that combine a few sports, it would be great to be able to pick more than one when posting a new event. This came up when I couldn't find a specific AR / ski-O / snowshoe-O event because I didn't have AR selected as one of my sports, and that was the closest way to describe the event given only one choice. Maybe this doesn't come up all that often? ;)

Spike button! I know others have suggested a "like" button and often people just type it into a comment but perhaps AP can have a "spike" button. :-) After all spiking a control is among what orienteers enjoy the most about O. hide discussion any way to hide the 'orienteering discussion' section on the homepage? I'd prefer not to see this; most of it is a waste of time these days. I can hide the events discussion by switching my sport to something that doesn't have any discussion ('Other'), but would be nice to be able to turn that off too. I just want to use AP as a training diary, not a social networking site.

Add "Ultra-Running" as choice for sport Ultra-running is different from regular running the same way as Orienteering from Ski Orienteering. Another option to implement this new feature is to add sub-category to "Sport". Sport may remain "Running" as long as there is an option to specify "Ultra". Using sub-category might allow to segregate running into other distinct categories such as "Trail", "Road", "Track" and even "Mountain". However since we are on subject I have noticed that these days sometimes one running event cannot be categorized with just one distinct category. For example "Mount Washington Road Race" is a Mountain Road race.

Sometimes I feel like adding something to what someone has suggested, or pointing out something that they may have missed." + allow others to rate suggested feature thus giving an idea of what is most desired future feature by AP community. It might help to prioritize suggestion list and possibly remove some obscure suggestions. It might be as simple as "Like", "Dislike" rating or from 0-5

Swimming metrics and Viewing Metrics The only measurements you provide are meters or miles, however, with swimming, most people swim in a 25 yd pool, so it would be helpful to provide yards as an option.

Also--if you could select how to view your workouts. Maybe you want to see all of them in miles, so it should convert all your workouts to miles to be able to show a better comparison of where you are in total miles each week.

Attackpiont mobile site 'lite' Add Training screen I've started using my iPhone to add skeleton training details while I can remember them, and then updating the details on the computer later.

I find the Add a Training Entry screen (http://www.attackpoint.org/newtraining.jsp) a bit clunky on the iPhone, though. It doesn't quite fit on the screen, even in landscape orientation (and I'd rather use the phone with the screen in a portrait orientation). The 'training intensity' and 'max heart rate' fields are misaligned with the rest of the screen and there are a lot of options to get through.

I'd love to see a 'lite' screen for mobile users that only had the required / most frequently used fields on it. Maybe there could be a link on-screen that allows 'all fields' to be displayed by switching to the standard view.

Tagging Other Users Integrate the ability to tag other users in training sessions and logs...maybe it just links to their log, or possibly adds the training event for them as well (although that'd be more along the lines of a "trained with" field in the add training page rather than a tag in the description section.

Mobile site doesn't advance to correct place on discussion thread One great feature of the site is the way, when you click on a discussion thread you previously read, it advances you to the first new post. Ability to add comments in batch mode I haven't found a way to add a training comment for a batch entry on the batch entry screen itself. I first have to enter the batch items, then go back and find the item for editing in my calendar. Batch entry for events calendar It would be nice to have a batch entry mode for entry of a club's event calendar. In OCIN's case, for TROL League events or our summer sprint series, for example.

I don't know how to batch the google maps part.

It would be nice also if certain other people could edit the events. Maybe the "nearby" or "group" feature would give the person entering some options for other people to allow editing.

Highlight splits with better than average times... Currently the splits display (example: http://attackpoint.org/racesplits.jsp/race_8397 ) shows red for booms. How about another color for legs that a runner did faster than expected? (I'm thinking green or blue?)

Another option would be to show a dull background color for average legs, and a brighter color (red = slower and blue/green/whatever = faster) for legs with splits that deviate more from the runner's average speed.

The ability to pick another field to color by, such as HR would also nice, but pace would be the most desirable. Even with automatic color and rage selection, the feature would be quite useful.

Points from Races List In the ranking list, every member has their scores from races in descending order. To see what score come from each race, you have to click on it and it brings you to the list down the bottom of the page.
Would it be simpler to just hover over the score and the event title pops up?
Kinda like when someone hovers over an AP user name, their name and class pops up.

logging surface type It would be great if you could input the terrain you run on (e.g. asphalt, trail, terrain, track etc). Ideally this would be free format so that you could decide what terrain you want to add (if any) and would allow you to split the run by time (e.g. 30 minutes on trail and 30 minutes on asphalt). I would find this useful in being able to track how much time I spend off road compared to road etc.

Creating private notes causes updates in favorites list I observed the following last night:

- A follows B on Attackpoint as a favorite
- B updates his log and thus appears on A's favorites list
- A reads the update to B's log and B is removed from A's favorites list
- B adds a note to his log that comprises a private note and nothing else
- B's log reappears in A's favorites list

I haven't tested this, but I'd guess the same thing might happen when the only update to an existing entry (whether a training entry or a note) is to add a private note.

I don't know how much effort would be involved in conditioning inclusion in the favorites lists on whether there's been a change to the 'public fields'. But I figure it could be a neat little enhancement to make.

Coloring Sick/Injured Days I really like the coloring system you are using for sick and injured days. I was just browsing through my log in monthly and yearly views, and I realized that it might be really useful if the specific day identifiers (the little S,S,M,T,W,H,F,etc...) at the bottom of the graphical list of all the days in that particular period showed up color coded as well. I like to be able to look at that graph of a particular month to get a good idea of when training was going well and when it wasn't, and if there was some indication of sick and injured days it would be even more useful.

It's not too critical, but if it's not too much trouble it would be a very nice little tweak. Thanks so much Kenny.

Route Gadget Link or Integration Certainly you have plenty to do but if you're looking for a challenge, you might think about either adding a field for races that allows one to enter links to a route gadget site. You might even think of integrating with route gadget in a deeper way. At http://www.routegadget.net/ you can see links to all the clubs in the world that host Route Gadget. Route Gadget has a graphical view of course maps and racer routes. That's its main strong point. AP is much better for showing split comments and other things about races. Route Gadget is actually weak on comments and splits. In Colorado Tapio Karras mentioned having some correspondance with the developer of Route Gadget. Tapio even coined the name for it for the developer so he might be a good resource to learn more from. Collaboration between both AP and Route Gadget would benefit both sites.

Entering log data from ealier days Presently, we select "add training" and the data entry page comes up with the current day's date preentered. However, I am often behind in my entries and have to enter previous days data. I have to remember to change the date field and count back to get the correct date. A complicated and ornorous task, to be sure.

My idea is to expedite this process using the small bar graph at the top of our log page that summarizes the current week's data. The single letters "S, M, T..." underneath each day could be html links to the "add training page" and the correct date could be automatically inserted based on that day of the week.

Email notification of various things... It would be nice if I could get an email when someone posted comments on my training log, as I may miss a few otherwise... And an email with a link back to the page would be nice.

Perhaps something throttled too, in case of multiple comments, so that I get one email, then a notified-bit gets set, then when I (while logged in) view a page at AP (any page, really), the notified-bit gets cleared.

I can imagine others might want to be able to get emails of replies to a particular discussion thread, or other things too.

Route Drop down This is a pretty easy one I think. When you click the route drop down it displays them in the order that you added them. Tagging bike/tyres/etc in addition to shoes Because meny people here do more than just run it would be nice to be able to tag more equipment than just shoes. I do a lot of biking (MTB, road and commute) and now tag my bikes under the "shoes" category. It works but is far from perfect. Also I believe many bikers would be interested to follow the mileage and performance of their tyres.

My suggestion would be to add different categories of equipment to be tagged. It would also be nice to be able to tag multiple equipments per training, like bike + tyre. The best thing would be if it was possible to make your own categories just like you can create your own sports. Bikers can create categories for bikes and tyres, kayakers could tag kayaks and paddles, and so on.

In addition to features described above, there is a problem with equipment tagging when doing multisports. If I do a multisport workout session of for example MTB - running - inlineskating I can't use the equipment tag properly because the software only enables me ...

Though the way one tracks one's own workouts is different from another persons, it would spark some discussion to be able to select from the Favorites List, a person to compare year or montly totals with. test routes/events I have several different training activities I use as a test of fitness, it could be running, skiing, biking, rowing or something like Swampfoxes "Killer Bee Loop", etc.

The idea is to be able to create a "test event", enter data and later access all historical data on these "tests" in a table form on a same screen. Column would be like: Date, time (result), (may be pace in min/km or min/mile), HR , HR Max, and "comments"

I understand that I can do it be entering split data, and than creating re-runs, but that is a "public domain" area and in my mind, clutters that domain with personal data, useless to other people.
If possible, and this is just a suggestion, I would love to see it under log tab, among features like shoes, injuries, calendar, reports.
DarthBalter live
Standard training courses There are similar suggestions to this, but I don't think anything exact: Add a pulldown box analogous to the "shoes" box that lets you select from a set of named "standard" training courses that the user has entered. E.g., I might save something called "Killer Bee Test Loop", for which I would have filled in training type, intensity, length, climb, and number of controls. Selecting that would fill in those fields, and let me manually adjust them as well as fill in the remaining ones (date, time, comments). This would save me having to look up the length and climb of my favorite training courses each time I do them.

Rounding of 'shoes' mileages I'm not quite sure whether I'd classify this as a bug or a feature. There seems to be some funny rounding logic going on regarding shoes. Today I added a new pair of shoes (Boris bike 2012) and entered a four-mile trip for Thursday.

Next, I added another trip for Friday, went to pull up the 'shoes' and saw that they had three miles logged against them. After this four-mile entry, the 'shoes' had seven miles logged total.

I'm guessing that there's some metric/imperial unit conversion followed by some rounding down that causes this. Not a big deal, but it seems a bit weird when it occurs.

yeah, it was a conversion/truncation issue. should be fixed now.

Event Attendees linking suggestion Currently, the people who have answered yes/no/maybe to an event show up in the listing for that event as a user name highlighted as a link to their profile page.

My suggestion is that this link remain as is before the event date, so people arranging for rides and getting questions answered have easy access to email addresses, but that it change on the event day to a training log link.

Recently for Tiomila 2009, I went through the entire attendees list several days after the event reading what people had written about the event. Based on that, I suggest that the "post-event-day" link be a week-long training log view that straddles the event day.

How about 3 days before the event, the event, and then 3 days after the event? This is a 7-day view for 1-day events. If you wanted to get fancy you could go 3 before, 3 after, and the number of days for the event in the middle, and use an 8- or 9-day view for 2- or 3-day events.

Not necessarily any of the info, just to the group homepage... maybe a star if there's a new discussion post in the group? Otherwise I can't see visiting very often.

Break up the discussion board into sections Given the increase in the number of discussions taking place on the discussion board, as well as the diversity of the various discussions, I think that it might finally be time to create several sub-sections of the discussion board to keep things organized. In addition, there seem to be some discussions that not everyone would like to be exposed to, and by relegating these types of discussions to their own section on the discussion board, we could shelter people from exposure to certain discussions that they are not interested in seeing.

Several types of discussion that might merit their own section are: General Discussion (for anything that doesn't fit in the other sections), Event Discussion (for event advertising, travel planning, trash talking, event recaps, etc.), Product Information (for general product discussion, reviews, information from manufacturers, etc.), Training and Technique Discussion (for everything related to training and the development of good technique).

agreed. I've been thinking about the best way to do this.

add log hits to overall ranking Number of log hits would probably be a good thing to include in the overall Attackpoint ranking, since it's actually an indication that the user is contributing useful content. (More meaningful than, e.g., seniority.) I guess this would mean that on the summary page you'd be able to see how many hits other people are getting, and I don't know if there's a reason why that's currently hidden information.

Events List Lots of events that aren't really relavent to the Orienteering community are getting posted to the events list. It is good that you can classify what kind of event it is, and that events closer to a user show up larger. However, it seems to me that local type events aren't really useful for people who aren't in that area. It would be great if International and A-level meets showed up for everyone, and local meets only showed up for folks within a certain range. It's nice to be able to add local meets to our own calendars, but it makes the events list get a bit cluttered.

this is achieved with the relative proximity filter. the way it currently works is to calculate the average distance people are traveling to get there (this may be a more reliable indication than relying on "local" vs "regional" etc classification.) you can then set the filter as a multiple of this distance. seems to work pretty well.

List of recent VDot performances I'd find it interesting and motivational if there were a page that aggregated all the VDots calculated from running races within say the last year. Some members of the Canadian team are entering 5K times to achieve somewhat the same effect but it would be cool to have it AttackPoint-wide.

excellent idea.

New users Some indication of when a new user has become active. Maybe after they've logged 50 hours of training or some similar threshold. Then we'd know to go check them out and see if it's someone we'd like to add to our favorites.

you can sort the training logs page by user newness, so the newest guys show up at the top.

Training Sort The popularity of AP and its new users makes it difficult to locate people you want to read up on. The Favorites feature helps but not enough. Perhaps the Training Logs page could be electively sorted by clicking the column title or perhaps a new sort grouping option (set in a user's profile) like club affiliation or geography would make it better.

Who gets listed on Training So, I haven't posted any training for a week, and my name appears nowhere on the page when I click "Training", but there are oter people at the bottom who haven't posted anything in over a year. It might make sense to list only those who have entries in the last week, but if not, then I think the selection of which lazy people get displayed could be smarter. Or maybe there's some logic to it that I'm missing.

Treatment of foreign events Ken,

I confess I hadn't previously noticed that events outside the US appear to generate 1/100 the ranking points one would expect. This may explain why hardly anyone who competes at all regularly in the US is entering races held elsewhere. Seems a pity - I'd like to see the split analysis and so on for Canadian A meets, WOC races, etc.. These races are obviously already receiving some kind of special treatment. If we're wedded to AttackPoint rankings being based on purely US events, perhaps we ought to exclude others entirely and remove the disincentive to enter them.

Jon

P.S. If you feel moved to set up a parallel ranking based on Canadian events, that would be cool too.

this was not on purpose (attackkpoint doesn't know which events are non-US), and is mostly fixed now thanks to Wyatt's driftless CSV formula.

comments for reruns you don't seem to be able to enter comments on a rerun. when you enter then edit comments for your first run, you see two comment boxes for each leg, both showing the same text. however the second of these does not seem to be saved.

also, maybe one should be able to denote certain races as 'non-competitive' when entering splits. then you could enter splits without affecting your ranking score, if anyone cares about that much.

you should now be able to enter comments for reruns. I don't think we want to let people exclude their splits from the rankings.

% values on hours by intensity The percentage values on the hours by intensity graphs looks like the values are not being rounded. When adding up all the values it comes to around 98%. When the values are not being rounded up or down, it loses all of the decimal points and there fore won't add up to 100%

rounding values doesn't guarantee a sum of 100% (e.g. 3x 33.3%), and it's not clear that more decimal places would be useful enough to justify the clutter.

ranking bug? I was checking ranking points for todays run and noted two different results - if i run 2005 all races, todays sprint ranks about 90 points, if i do 2005 races < 3.5km, it jumps to 95 points - seems to me the rank points for a race should be the same regardless of comparison period or filtering for distance.

the race filtering changes what events are included in the iterative ranking calculations. this affects people's overall scores, which in turn affects the course scores (CSVs) and as a result, the individual race scores (PSVs)
