I think the best rout to 4 was to the right though water
The water was trivial. Worst of it was climbing a steep bank.

Quite likely true. Never even considered it, nor crossing the stream and using the trail on the east side.
I crossed to the trail on the east side and then went up the spur and dropped into the control. Not sure the easy navigation was worth the extra distance but since I was tired (sleepy tired more than physically tired) I figured it was safest.
I just came here to say that when I read the title of the comment ("rout to 4"), I thought "Balter!"
There's a quiz show on public radio called Says You. In one part of the show, half of the panelists make up fake definitions for a word (one has the real definition), and the other half try to guess which definition is the real one. One of the words last weekend was "balter".
I forget the fake definitions. The real one was along the lines of
this.
:), but the origin my last name goes to town of Balta, in Odessa region, Ukraine.
and I stand by my use of word rout, as well of use of word worm :).
Shoot first, think later!
And, if it was not for Boris pointing at my mistakes, my grammar would not be better than of a 2-nd grader, I believe it is at a 3-rd grader level now, and I am very proud of it!
Specifically, I think it was "to step on one's partner's toes while dancing".
Thanks for all the clarifications :)
I guess I could have looked it up myself too...
