Kitch:
If you actually prepared for the OMM you'd most likely win it

The bags of wee are only a highlight if you have sturdy bags

Kitch, I disagree. In my experience specific preparations for the OMM seem almost inversely proportionate to the result.

Great running Nails and OJ!

then the conclusion has to be you were doing the wrong preparation Rob.
Its just a suggestion, having done several and done really quite well each time without any real prep perhaps try and do some and bag that top spot.

Seriously, I've been there. Trained hard in 2010: couldn't find a dodgily placed control. Trained hard in 2011: retired with hypothermia. Trained hard in 2013: partner was ill. There are so many variables in the OMM, it's less about specific training than getting it right on the weekend. After years of long racing in the hills, and a long hard season of fell racing, one training run was probably about right this year. And I don't think we could have run much better really.

OJ you just need a partner who can carry your bag...

That's me out then, I struggle to carry my own!

You just have to give yourself the best chance every year and let the rest take care of itself. Which means just a little specific prep given your overall fitness and race schedule in a typical year at the moment. A bit of with sack training in the month leading up to the event, doing something like the mountain trial would also be good prep as well as just being something you should be doing...
