Flying Scotsman: Shame, I know how much this race meant to you. But you could have drowned out there so best to take the help when you could get it.

Super effort up until now but I still can't fathom how the top guys do it, savage beyond savage.

Any chance you can rejoin if you get a clean bill of health??

wingsofthedove: Baby, so glad you pulled out in time, asthma is super dangerous to begin with and being in cold water while it happens is no joke. I know you really wanted to finish this and I really appreciate that you remembered your promise to me that there should be "no permenant damage done". I am not kidding when I said that if you end up in a wheelchair I am going to push you to the shopping mall every day :-)

Flying Scotsman: That would be cruel punishment beyond belief Yumay, shopping mall every day, I'd lose my will to live after day 1! say hi to Rog from us.

TriARgirl: You did an amazing job to get as far as you did! That is a very grueling race - intended to weed out 90% of the field! Even PQ only sets out to weed out 66%! I am so impressed by what you did. Knowing when to pull out for health reasons is so important. Now, you have plenty of races ahead of you, after some really epic tests of your body and mind.

msm: Really proud of you man on all accounts. Sports induced asthma can kill you, it was very wise of you to pull out to live to fight another day. Secondly by getting as far as you did. It is an outstanding accomplishment to get that far. Way to go!!

OnYourLeft: yes.. good work out there.

if you want we can reproduce the rest of the race here in seattle.. i'd be into that. seriously.

Terry: Roger, congratulations for the tremendous amount you accomplished!

ebone: Doing 3.5 days of this course is absolutely awesome. I'm impressed you made it so far. It's funny that the swimming legs ended up being your strong suit (until the asthma), after Michi and I gave you a hard time about your swim training.

Regarding asthma: I don't normally have it either, but I've had mild attacks every few years when fatigued and exerting hard in cool and wet conditions, which it sounds like you had.

swbkrun: Roger Way to go!!! It takes more heart and courage to throw in the towel!!! YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF! Great job!!!

roschi: thanks guys... its killing me watching the race now... its so absolutely amazing, the atmosphere (13.000 racers, volunteers, support, etc, relocating to another city every day and setting up a gigantic new pseudo-city)... the single men are dropping like flies now.. 14 of 90 had to pull out during the same swim.. i am feeling awesome except that i cant breathe well still... its some sort of bronchitis, but i would have loved to try today, its the hardest day of all, with some of the wildest singletrack MTB at 2600m elevation (app 8800 feet)... oh well, so it goes... , 62 solos left, will be interesting to see how many drop today...

Flying Scotsman: Have to confess to laughing at the google automatic translation webpage for the gigathlon, especially the race reports which make zip sense although I did figure out what the broom car was (sweep).

The solos are really dropping and I believe that Shauna Armstrong had some difficulties yesterday as well but did finish.

Rest up Rog, there's always another day - we'll try and win the Trioba 12 for you (this is like a 100m dash compared to what you've just done!)

#  Posted 2007-07-12 19:27:03
TriARgirl: I think it's really wise for you to not race with bronchitis. I know it's hard to watch when you're feeling sort of okay right now - but, the stress on your body when you're actually competing is tremendous. There's a difference between pain and viral pathology!
