Returning exchange cadets, I take it? We did something similar one of the years I was coaching, and I remember a tough discussion about young talent vs. those who'd been on the team a few years and really weren't improving. In the end, we actually kept a plebe on authos and cut a cow, but took the cow along on trip sections since we never had a full roster and he brought other qualities to the team besides competitiveness. Don't give up hope - to have gotten to your age group competitive class in such a short period of time is impressive. We considered it a mark of how much the team had improved when we had people off orange by Oct/Nov back in '06-'09. It hasn't always been so. And worst case scenario, you do IM orienteering and then crush tryouts next year. Good luck either way!

(And yes, heck of a course Sun- but totally fun. We all got beat by a high school girl, have you met Izzy yet?)

Yeah I think we have 3 returning from exchange. I think things will be okay, whatever happens happens. I think I just posted that in a fit of mixed emotions. This Thayer Week has been really difficult on me as you can tell by the sleep average.
And thank you very much! Sunday was a blast, but I have yet to meet Izzy yet. Hopefully next semester I can go out and talk to and meet some more people than I did this semester as a newbie!

Ah, good ol' Thayer. I don't miss those days one bit!

Speaking of great ways to meet people, do your best to get out for the Hudson Highlander. Mass start, 26.2 km, one of my absolute favorites. Not an A meet, so people run in packs and even navigate together. I ran one years ago quite by accident with a much more experienced navigator about my speed, had a blast, and learned a lot. Can't wait to do it again, so good to be back east.

Beat the Dean!
