Very interesting. I see that (unlike me) he zoomed right into the control from every approach. A good attack point is worth some extra distance sometimes. I did my own analysis of this kind in my backyard. I had set a sprint course here for a meet this summer and ran the course maybe 10-12 times. I didn't record the different routes in that detail, but I was surprised to see how different some of the choices turned out, particularly (in this rather thick area) how preferable trail routes were to direct routes.
