we plan to use Sport Ident electronic punching at the 2015 Raccoongaine. Electronic punching is done with a Sport Ident Card (commonly called a finger stick, because it is worn on your finger). There are several common models of the Card, SI-6, SI-8, SI-9, SI-10 and SI-11. All of these except SI-8 are capable of recording 50 or more control visits; SI-8 cards can record up to 30 visits.
WPOC has a supply of SI-8 and SI-9 cards. We plan on loaning the SI-8 cards to teams doing the 3-hour course because no one has ever come close to visiting 30 controls in three hours. We will also loan SI-8s to some teams on the 6-hour course who, based on past results, have not come close to 30 control visits. In this way, we will be certain to have enough SI-9 cards to loan to 6-hour teams who might reach more than 30 controls.
Registration will open just after noon on January 1. Be advised that the 150 person limit was reached by February 9 last year.
When you register, you will need to specify whether or not you want to borrow a SI-card. If you have a SI card of your own, you will need to tell me the card number (it's on the card). Be sure your card can accommodate the number of controls you may visit based on the info above. Note: The registration/waiver page has gotten even longer to handle the SI card borrowing and our new approach to waivers; it is now two normal 8 1/2 x 11 pages.
If you are totally unfamiliar with electronic punching, don't worry; we will show you how to use the SI card. We will even provide you a paper punch card as a backup in case there is any problem with the e-punch equipment. We don't anticipate any problem; we have been using the system in our other events for almost two years.
