I am Bernard, a PhD physiotherapy student from Curtin university (Western Australia). I am doing a PhD topic on running biomechanics and backpack carrying. This is very interesting for all runners involved in backpack carrying. Testing will be at Curtin University, Perth between Feb or March 2015. It will be a single 3hr testing session. Attached is a link for more information

Last time I saw this study advertised, I thought you had to be under 35, but that seems to have been removed? Unfortunately, I am now no longer in the "not injured in the last three months" category :(
Funny, I didn't initially look at this thread because I thought it would be in the US/UK/Europe/somewhere far away but it's in my own backyard! I don't think I've been injured in the past three months...
Will I get injured from doing the session though? I got a groin injury (short lived) from the last PhD study I was involved in.
I'm not willing to have you risk that sort of injury again.
Pretty high risk with tRicky (I assume that last time he was kicked in the nuts by the person running the study for saying something particularly annoying?)
No it was a faulty stationary bike - damned uni budgets. The crank fell off right near the end of the 100,000W time trial.
Hi all, yea I listened to the advise from the forums, noticed how many good runners I will be missing, told my supervisors and we got ethics to adjust the upper age limit to 45 years. fletch- sorry about the injury. tRicky my study involves
1) 2X10 maximal vertical jumps,
2) 3 X 20m max sprints without load
3) A minimum of 45 bouts of 20m running at 3 speed (3,4,5m/s) and 3 load (0.10,20% body weight). Why a minimum? Some people find it tricky to find and keep constant the speed. The people I have tested have finished the experiment with 60-70 bouts.
4) rest will be given after each attempt.
I am unsure if the experiment will trigger your groin injury. It depends if you have pain running now and running maximally. If no pain, it is unlikely my experiment will trigger. Because it is straight line running, I don't expect accidents. I won't conduct my runs in raining weather, since the lab has an outdoor starting run way.

Are you willing to cover costs from the UK? I could with some sunshine.
Bernard, the groin injury was a one off, quite a long time ago and unlikely to reoccur. I'd me more worried about my calf muscles and hamstrings!
Fletch is a bit far away to be participating but I will give it a go. I can't jump very high though.
Without the age restriction, the only qualification I don't meet is the operation - had a minor knee op in June 2014. I'm back running unrestricted though, if that helps. Happy to be involved if I can get past the pesky ethics committee. :)
I can't jump very high either, but that's because I'd hit the ceiling.
I might be a bit far away, but I was going to be in Perth for the March long weekend. But even if I get my achilles settled, I won't meet the 3 months "injury free" Does it count as an injury if it hasn't stopped me running yet?
So is your plan to come to Perth every time I'm away from Perth? Makes sense. I'd try and be where I'm not too.
tRicky can you drop me an email at b.liew@postgrad.curtin.edu.au for details? fletch unfortunately I have to count that as an injury. Juffy the age limit is pretty static for no, how old are you? hillandale I will fly myself to UK too if I had the funds. Need the cold.
Uh oh, he asked how old you are. That's an internet no-no isn't it?
I think it's only a no-no if I'm a 14yo girl.
Bernard - sorry, misunderstanding. I'm 37, but had a knee op 7 months ago. So the only condition I don't meet is the op.
Sorry Juffy, maybe my second experiment in a few months time will be good for you ;) Tough luck
