Hi All,
I am trying to figure out how create a training were part of the map is contours only and part of the map is regular. Also with a corridor I would like out side the corridor to be light or transparent and the corridor to be solid for more begginer level. If you can explain this to me please do. Thanks

Erin

I don't know the answer but I did save this link away for situations like this. Maybe it will help.

these instructions are for OCAD 10- I am assuming you have reasonable OCAD skills.

contours only: use a line symbol (eg one of the purple lines or better still make a new line symbol just for this task) to draw around the area you want to be contours only. Cover the whole map with an area symbol (any area symbol will do but as above it might avoid later confusion if you make a new area symbol just for this task). Cut a hole in the area using the line around the contours only area as the outer edge of the hole. Then select the line symbol and >Map >Partial map >Use selected object >OK - call it 'contours only'. Now select the area symbol and once again >Map >Partial map >Use selected object >OK.. Call it 'rest of map'. Open 'contours only' and either hide or delete all symbols except the contours, close. Open 'rest of map' - you will see there is a big white hole where you want contours only. >File >Import, check either 'place with offset' and leave it at 0, 0 or 'use real world coordinates'. 'Symbols' options and CRT are irrelevant. Click OK and you should now get a map with contours only where there was a hole.

Transparent corridor. Draw the edges of the corridor with lines. At the beginning and end of the corridor draw short lines across the corridor - so you have in effect a long thin windy tube with caps at each end. The edges and the ends all need to be one object (use >Edit >Merge). Select this object and yet again >Map >Partial map >Use selected object >OK.. Call this 'corridor centre' Hide or delete the border line. Open 'corridor centre', you will have a map that is mostly white except for the middle of the corridor. Open the original map as a background and then in 'Background Map options' adjust the Dim percentage until you get the effect you want.

Also, you may want to add full strength north lines that are visible over the whole of the corridor map (not just in the centre of the corridor) to make it easier to use a compass.
