I stopped reading after that...

We orienteers all already know the benefits. I saw this article as a non-threatening way to perhaps attract a few more non-orienteers to the sport.

I learned about orienteering when I had young children, and was intrigued by the combination of exercise and map reading. If the article strikes readers the same way they might decide to investigate further.

Besides the obvious benefits of learning/knowing how to navigate, I always thought the greatest benefit (as a selling point of orienteering) is Increasing self-esteem or self-confidence which is #7 (or 8), on the reference list.

I mean, being able to go out into the forest, anyplace in the world, and not be worried about being lost is a tremendous self-confidence booster.

The Header photo surely is hard core. And O benefits work on all levels of the sport; possibly even more at beginner levels.

Too bad there are no links to O-USA or IOF. Who is the author? The picture looks Brittish.

That doesn't really look like something OUSA would be part of... as for the picture... Scott Fraser in his national team kit, towards/at the front, first leg of a relay...
