Discussion: Still room for a few more entries

I was realizing that I hadn't seen any information about this 6/12/24 hour rogaine on Attackpoint yet. I thought that since there are still a few open slots available (attendance cap of 75 people, fewer than 20 spots left), and there are very few full-length rogaines announced in North America so far this year, that some AP readers might inadvertently be letting this chance slip by them. I am copying some information sent out by the organizer to people already signed up. One feature that might be particularly interesting to some people is that solo entries are being accepted (most rogaines don't allow this).

You are receiving this email either because you signed up for the Get Stoked rogaine or are in some way involved with it.

We are about two weeks out so here's a few things for you:

1) There is a list of who is attending at http://www.navigationtips.com/races/stoked/partici...
We're up to 57 racers so far (max 75), so please invite your friends if you haven't already.

2) There is a mandatory gear list at http://www.navigationtips.com/races/stoked/gear.ht... - basically a headlamp, emergency blanket, whistle, cell phone, and lighter.

3) Directions to the Stokesville campground can be found at http://www.navigationtips.com/races/stoked/directi...

4) There are 65 controls plus the Start/Finish. The maps are 1:30000 with a 10m contour interval and were created by Greg Lennon of Red Arrow Maps and QOC. 6 and 12 hour racers will get one 12x18 map (with 50 controls) and 24 hour racers will get two maps (with all 65 controls). We expect it is 55-60 miles and 20,000 ft of ascent to clear the 24 hour course, so we don't think anyone will do it, but feel free to prove us wrong.

5) There will be snacks at the Start/Finish for the entire event (from Sat noon until Sunday noon) and hot food periodically - at the end of each event (5pm-ish Sat, 11pm-ish Sat, 11am-ish Sun). We'll also have some drinks and possibly a keg of beer.

6) There will be ample water on the course (lots of creeks and lakes and such). There may be water at Todd Lake Campground if the NFS turns it on). We will not be putting water out on the course, so bring something to treat water with.

7) The weather could be anything from mid 30s and wet to mid 80s and dry. Plan accordingly.

8) You can come camp Friday night or Saturday night as part of your entry. Both nights is an extra $10. If you decide to stay a second night, you can pay at the event. All the camping money goes to the campground. We'll hopefully have a fire on Friday and Saturday nights.

9) Alcohol is allowed at Stokesville campground, so feel free to bring some of your own.

10) Maps will be passed out between 7am and 11am Saturday for all three events. You are free to look at the map as look as you like. When you are ready to go, we will write your start time on the control punch card and give it to you. You must start by 11am on Saturday.

11) Someone will be at the campground by 5pm on Friday evening. Please don't arrive before that.

12) You are free to stay Sunday night as well for an extra $10 as well. We will likely be there picking up the controls.

13) Just a reminder that this is a non commercial event as the local Forest Service office didn't have to the staff to process a permit for us this year. So, all attendees are paying for food and camping and you are entering the National Forest as a private citizen and not as part of a commercial event. That's why we are limited to 75 people.

That's about all for now. Any questions - just email.

Cheers!
Mark and Teresa

Too bad it's the same weekend as West Point, this looks awesome.

Yep, I've also got other obligations that weekend.

I sure appreciate when people posting event notices include the date so that I know if it is worth even bothering to read more and click back to the link for more information.

I imagine if you get the 'thanks for signing up' email that you probably know the date already ;-)

Thanks for posting. Unfortunately (or fortunately), on that same weekend, participating in a marathon that swings two blocks from my house.

Sorry about having missed putting in the date of the event, Mike--it was a bit of an afterthought putting it here in the first place, among half a dozen other things I was trying to get done while waiting for a helium dewar to fill before going home from work, and I guess I didn't do enough proof-reading.

I'm also sad that it is a West Point weekend conflict, since I go there almost every year, and it is only half the driving distance from where I live. On the other hand, it is presently the only 24 hour rogaine listed in the US this year besides the July 11-12 CNYO event for which I am the meet director, so I figured I had to take the opportunity while it was offered!

Can't find a team mate? no problem. Teams of one are allowed.
