Orienteering Ottawa is planning to start offering two training weekends each year.

The first of these training camps will be held in Kingston ON May 29th-31st and is open to all orienteers that can comfortably complete an intermediate (orange) course on a regular basis. There will coaches providing guidance at all training sessions for intermediate through elite level orienteers.

We have put together a document with all the details for the weekend
here.

Canadian, you said two per year. Do you have proposed dates for the second one yet? (I'm already committed to helping with a local meet on the May weekend - otherwise it would be great timing - our juniors are out of school by then).

No decisions made yet Mike. We're waiting to see how this spring camp goes before we start looking at planning the next one. It's nice to know there is interest from so far away though!

I like the May date as I know that Oct will be crazy busy here with the KY Outdoor Adventure Weekend. Mike, have you figured out how to clone yourself yet?

Great to see that you are doing the clinic in Kingston. We have a cottage in Rockport and there are many nice detailed areas nearby. We often run at Charleston Lake, Hill Island and Jones Creek. Wellsley Island State Park which is just over the border would also make a great venue for a major competition. We have often talked about these areas with Bill Anderson and Gord Hunter. If you could get an active club established in Kingston it would be great.

We have our Rochester Map Adventure the same weekend so won't be able to attend this year, but would be willing to help in the future. Never been to Gould, but usually go to Foley Mountain once or twice a year. Look forward to seeing the mapped areas.

Good Luck with the clinic. Hope to attend an OOC meet this spring.

Linda, I agree that there should definitely be an orienteering club in Kingston. I think the sport would do really well there and it's a central location to several well established orienteering clubs. That's one of the reasons I've been pushing to do a camp there.

The other of course is that there is so much great terrain in that region! Unfortunately very little of it is mapped.

When I interviewed for a Canada Research Chair at Queens (was offered job but turned it down) I was asked this question during a round table Q and A: "will you start an orienteering club here in town if offered the job?" ;-)

Glad to see K-town getting some more O. More pockets of O in Ontari-O would be wonderful. glad to see Ottawa OC taking the lead

I've just added it. Fyi you can just write Events@OrienteeringOntario.ca and one of the web admins will add your events to the provincial calendar.
