Question: that time of 34mins for parkrun is similar to mine. It is much slower than your capability. As you ran with your friend - how does it feel to run continuously at a pace much less than you are capable of? It would be less than you would do for any type of training??. Is it hard to 'contain' yourself? (serious questions from me!)

I thought the "how does it feel?" question was in reference to Darwin's frigid weather (it plunged to 17). Quite a few places in northwestern Australia set coldest-ever-so-early-in-dry-season records over the weekend, but Darwin wasn't among them.

(By the way, I've got a paper at an upcoming conference that I was tempted to, but haven't, give the title "Bloody Freezing! Recent increases in frequency of extreme low minimum temperatures in northwestern Australia").

There will be a rush on pullovers. 17 must be pretty near THE temp low.

Wow - that is really cold for Darwin! Did E have enough warm clothes or did you have to quickly fashion her a beanie out of an old polar fleece? :)

Well at the op shop later, after parkrun, it was $1 day and I wasn't the only one hunting for warm children's clothes!

Running at 7min/km just gives me time to think about my technique. I take smaller steps than usual, but I think that is all that feels different. I think about what hurts and try to work out why and what I can do about it.

thanks Sus - that helps me to apply to what I am trying to achieve. The only 'hurt' I'm thinking about is 'why'.
