The organizing committee has decided to extend the deadline for regular registration rates from June 3rd until July 3rd. Lots of time to sign up before the fees go up. A big thanks to all those who have registered so far.

Hey Bubo,
Check out the photos of the 1977 COC that I posted on the COC facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/canadianorienteeringchamp...
Does it bring back memories for you?
Yes, I may have a slight memory from COC´s in 1977 - not particularly from that beach, but from other events on PEI (stumbling on a dead boar out on the course at Peakes is one such memory...).
I recognize Ted of course, but the others are actually a mystery. I may be in there myself, probably with Jan S there as well...
I wasn't there, but from the stories I've heard, the most memorable thing about that event was the reeking dead pigs.
Bubo: you are the farthest away in the photo. I think Jan is next you you. The gorgeous bikini clad chick next to Ted is his mother, Pat.
I don't remember the dead pigs (I think they are pronounced peakes in PEI) but I do remember rather dense bush and a monumental search around the edges of a marsh.
jjcote>> Yes, that is still the most memorable thing - as I pointed out in my comment above, using the term boar instead of pig...
I know I have commented on this before here on AP (in PG´s log?) but my memory isn´t getting any better and now I don´t remember if they were (domestic) pigs or boar.
PS. To serve my memory with something more than dead critter I´m pretty sure I have a note of the results hiding somewhere in my "archives". I´ll see if I can dig it up.
Found some previous discussion on the subject of pigs (boar?) and
Peakes, PEI... Yes, there are maps!
Technically, "boar" is just the word for a male pig in English. I was just commenting that, just as you mentioned, whenever I hear about that event, people mention running past the dead pigs several times and how bad the smell was. Gord is the only person I've heard of who doesn't remember that.
A reminder that the deadline for regular registration rates ends July 3rd. A big thanks to all those who have registered so far.
