For 400m - that's like, super fast & shit. I don't even think I could do that and I'm some kind of runner.

cant tell if ur taking the piss.

but if ur not - I used to be a hell of a lot fitter and lighter.

If you are - meh nothing new LOL :P

No seriously, I'm fairly sure I'd go over a minute for 400m.

This chart also says a lot given these are the fastest times by people on AP (and some of them ARE runners). That's like a 2:20-2:30min/km if you can sustain it.

nar thats flat out sprint I used to die in the ass around the 350 mark otherwise would have been 52-54s but 55.7 or so was my best from memory. But no chance in holding that for 1km.

I think even to 800 I was 2:20 or 2:30 something (getting fuzzy with that time main event was 400). Then only ever tried 1500 a few times and pfft was crap at that like 5:40 or something well off the pace.

^ might explain some of my annoyance with 6+ kms :P

mind you I used to be much more about sprint than distance, tried x-country and sucked, too much about short bursts of power.

I think my best (and only) official time for a 400 was 61.85 electronically timed with spikes and out of blocks at Perry Lakes. I think it was fairly soon after a 1500 in 4:45 so maybe I would have been a chance at cracking the minute if completely fresh. Think my technique out of the blocks could use some work too. I remember Rachel said it looked as though I just stood up and then started running.

I would be surprised if fresh you couldn't break 60 and if what you said about blocks is true there's probably 1-2s there at least.

I'm pretty sure my sister ran close to 60s for 400m at Perry Lakes on the old track when she was in upper high school. I have no idea what I used to run, but know I could do 25 of them leaving on 80s... different sort of engine!

I have no idea what you just wrote. Are you talking about your running in the '80s? Did you run with puffy pants and David Bowie blaring in the background?

At least I really made the grade.

Nice chart!! (Did you check out the All years option).

Bryce - seriously, get a grip. STOP doing long distance. You are a natural middle distance runner and should be trying out distances from 800m to 10km - that is where your natural talent lies!

Who even keeps records going back that far?

Bryce isn't doing long distance....well, except at orienteering, but a lot of that distance is voluntary. :D

Strange you've only been on AP for 8.4 years yet you have times recorded from 1985. Is your memory accurate, did AP even exist back then :-)

I've kept a training diary since 1975. Now and again I add a few more lines from the hard copy to my "TROG". I would have added a lot more except I'm missing my 1999 diary. So I added 1985 instead.

Actually my strength is explosive and short distance.

But I'm training for anaconda solo so need to get distance in. Also you'll find majority of hings I do are sub 10km but for the rogaines and I enjoy the challenge of smashing out a long difficult race every now and again but it's certainly not my strength.

This only applies to running - cycling I have always had a different outlook but I've got a lot of work to do in both disciplines before I'm anywhere close to what I could/should be operating at.

Remember I'm only about 6 weeks into a program and the main aim of the program is small incremental gains and slow weight loss to try keep them more maintainable. You'll see the program intensity leverage up in about a months time once a truely solid base has been established.

Juffy is just jelly I've got him over short distance :) he'll be more jelly when his giving me ice team at last MTBO of the year ;)

Ice Team! That sounds cool :P

It doesn't get cold enough in WA to have an ice team.

How about an Ice Ice Baby?

Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it.

O-ing, over the last couple of years I've found Bryce makes a lot more sense if you stop assuming that he's rational.

tRicky:
Bryce has an explosive 300m time.
Jun 17, 2015 2:17 AM #
brycec:
yeah iceteam ha love an auto correct!

I will try explain again.
Historically I used to be short distance / explosive (power) / sprint. stuff
Tennis, Rubgy (wing/breakaway), athletics <800m.

Probably one of the fastest over the first 20m. Never used to do any distance stuff. 3km was long to me, everything was about quick bursts / practically intervals.

Fast forward I have been making the change to more middle distance but have been very inconsistent with training. and have also started to focus on the mentally and physically challenging longer stuff in adventure races and rogaines.

Currently training for Anaconda so my focus is building up a base so I have a solid platform to build a bit more distance and endurance under load on. cause atm I can do distance but its slow with minimal effort its just a matter of going. Now trying to transition to adding some speed/strength to that.

Also keeping in mind I want to increase my running pace to make future middle distance stuff much more enjoyable.
Jun 17, 2015 2:26 AM #
tRicky:
If you're anything like me, you'll never get middle distance right so you may as well just focus on sprints and long distance :-)

(maybe you can save the ice team for ski-O)

Oing - Bryce may be more physically suited to shorter stuff. If his goal in life isn't to be an professional athlete, why shouldn't he have a go at a bunch of different events that he enjoys and will enjoy more if he's fit enough to get around without dying?
Jun 17, 2015 5:51 AM #
O-ing:
For me enjoyment comes from doing something well. I agree that more fitness = more enjoyment. the difficulty is getting there particularly if you are not suited to the activity.
Jun 17, 2015 5:57 AM #
tRicky:
I endorse the above statement.

I gave up golf because I got frustrated with not knowing why I couldn't be consistent from week to week, even though it appeared I hadn't changed my technique. Not playing well equalled not enjoying myself, so I stopped (plus it buggered up my knees, just like grinding and stair climbing did).
Jun 17, 2015 6:38 AM #
brycec:
and hence I am training 6 months out :P

Everything seems to bugger ur knees!
Jun 17, 2015 6:43 AM #
Juffy:
O-ing - by that logic I should only do cycling or something.

He was referring activities you were suited to, not necessarily good at. Which would mean you're pretty much relegated to being a smartass on the internet. ♥

But I'm not suited to that I'm just good at it. Are you getting confused again
