Four out of the five finishers on the long did <3hrs. To be honest with the hills I should have made it shorter but I have a habit of not doing that :-( Plus wanted to give people their money's worth for the long drive.

Felt the same, I hate to DNF, but my leg killed me and I just was not in the zone. I did not even see you Brycec.. It is quite challenging for organisers to balance the events, but I agree it may have been too long yesterday. At the end of the day, just keep hard training forget about this event and hope for a better outcome next time. That's what I will do..

tbh if i had known I would have come for 1pm start and finished t in 3 hrs, but I though 215 would be enough its wasnt. I could have kept going but being 35 minutes late would not be cool!

Typically the long course riders are the first out (usually all within the first half hour) so was surprised to see both you and Dalto start not long before rego closure. I did hint to each of you that perhaps you should do the medium course! :P

Bernhard was an early starter but took >2hrs on the first leg so that blew his day.

Interesting, I figured with your fast first split that you must have taken the powerline track on the way to #1 but TBT says otherwise. Looks like you took yet another possible route, similar to Hadrien except he came out to the road before taking the track NW as you did (plus he got lost on the way there), whereas you took the single track.

Your route to #2 was the second shortest option (it was shorter to come back the way you came out of #1 and then over to that uphill single track but not necessarily the best given the steep hill), other than the cut through that you took on the way there (I also didn't ride that track north that you ended up on because it wasn't a route choice on any course so apologies if it was overgrown or had more obstructions than marked). There possibly were other tracks in that area but many of them are made by animals so I haven't mapped them. This is very evident along farm boundaries where the animals have a habit of breaking under the fences and continuing through into the bush. This is the same situation as the MR sprint map that I drew.

yeah I thought about going back but I didnt want to go down that hill was having visions of bad fall.

also no worries - unmarked tracks kinda come with the territory I just wish I hadn't be so sure it was my track because I really felt majorly lost for a good 25 minutes when i could have been hammering it. and yeah one I had used the small unmarked track to the parallel track I found a tonne of tracks going different directions which is really where the confusion properly kicked in. As while I was going along the parralel track I thought I had already turned the corner and managed to get onto one of the norther tracks by accident. had I been thinking I would have realized the river and also the steep contours but I had myself sold on a bad turn. Oh well!

I only rode that downhill once, after I put the control out on Saturday morning. It wasn't fast. The down on the northern side was much faster as it wasn't as steep or slippery so a better option. The western track along the fence boundary was also VERY OPEN, not like the track you ended up on ;-)

I took the overgrown one to CP2, based on our time splits look like we had similar level of "shitness"

Tip for the future, if it's green, you probably don't want to ride on it (long dash green is fine but short dash and dotted are pretty awful).

There were also ten log obstruction marked on that track. Ten!!! What were you thinking :-)
