Causes knee problems. You're not old enough to know about them for now (well actually you are) so take this advice from a senior who's had his fair share ;-)

My understanding is the benefit isnt the saving of your knees rather if your spinning the output required on an energy basis is lower and you burn from fat reserves rather than muscle - also means ur not being as counter productive to your development.

Sure its easier on joints but the ability to spin should mean on longer distances its easier to maintain, you wont cramp as much and youll get improved general fitness.

I take it all back. At the speed you seem to be going, I think it'd be unnatural to hold a cadence of 90. My ride home tonight was a plod and I would have been lucky to be doing 70 and it certainly wasn't grinding.
