| roschi: | hart, does the word TAPER ring a bell :)
take it easy man, you ll rock GT100, all the training you are doing now for it will not benefit but potentially endanger your performance.. i ll make sure to give you guys a shout next time.. |

| OnYourLeft: | yes this is the second reminder to actually taper. meaning do nothing, not just ride slow, or run a few .. actually do nothing. it's hard for me. |

| Stinky Pete: | I am not sure that taper means do nothing. to me it means do nothing at a level 3. i think you need to be doing somethings. Short speed workouts at level 5 or super easy jogs at a recovery level 1-2. Also cross training is fine. how about some yoga, biking or paddling? |

| OnYourLeft: | yeah i've thought about this a lot. i think different events require different types of tapering.
for 100 mile ultra: two weeks out i think paddling (which could make me sore), biking around town, and yoga is great. however for the week prior i do believe from what i've seen that almost nothing is the way to go before a 100 miler. there is no need to stay 'fresh'. i'll do one hike up to the high point on course at 9,860ft on thur next week and that will be all for me. i know others that "have to" run 3-4 miles every couple of days to stay sane. if you gotta, you gotta... but i'm leaning towards doing nothing. i spent the week before the hurt 100 with karl meltzer and krissy and they both did not run. the three of us did nothing but eat and sleep and hang out in hawaii. this was my first time actually tapering.. and we all broke the previous course records. =) that was a wakeup call to me. |
