that looks an awesome pace for a first-back long run! I can completely see the psychological benefits of mucking up the distance/laps - the hard bit is to replicate that without your knowledge!

Well done! It must have been thinking of me which made the 3rd lap go by so quickly :) Ages since I've done a road race but I am generally just focused on the next km, or increment (e.g. 21km is 3kmx7) and don't need to think about other things. Mind you, I do like the fact that with orienteering I am forced to not think about anything else and to just focus on the map. When I forget to clear my mind along with my SI card, that's when I run into trouble...

Great effort! I hope Eleanor didn't feel left out, not being thought about :)

Fantastic effort - lovely the psychoanalysis! And 'missing out on thinking about E' just means when you did realise and be with her it was all focus on her - and feeling of joy. I've tried to do something similar when doing stationary bike work after an injury - don't seem to be able to switch off enough and on the rare times I could I slowed down remarkably. Maybe this bear is bear of little brain!

Cheers peeps. Yes, it was one of those scenarios that is hard to set up deliberately! I think Eleanor was oblivious for some of it, she slept and wriggled around face down for the rest:). Re distraction, I think it depends on the amount of focus needed to get the job done. On the bike I count to keep up the cadence but can usually think about other things at the same time. Or sing a song with a good rhythm:).
