Nev-Monster:
I think the Canadian team is having their WOC selections or might have partially selected their team this weekend?

Over and done?

As per the Senior National Team selection document (http://www.orienteering.ca/wordpress/wp-content/up...) the following races at O-ringen will be used to select the team for any currently open spots:

● July 19 - Long (O-Ringen Stage 1)
● July 21 - Sprint (O-Ringen ‘rest day’ / DH 21 Elite Sprint)
● July 23 - Middle (O-Ringen Stage 4)

The results of the Selection races will be tallied, and the Canadian WOC team will be announced by email on or before July 26, 2015. No announcements have been made yet to my knowledge.

Nev, there is no contention among the women.

Will Critchley was top Canadian in the long on Sunday. But the selection policy states that no athlete can run both the long and middle (unless preselected) so if Will is also top in the middle on the 23rd he will have to choose which race he wants to run and the other race will go to the second place athlete.

The middle distance is bound to be challenging with lots of rock and small contour detail. Check out page 16 for a bit more info: http://np.netpublicator.com/netpublication/n482324...

Anyone have results today?
And I wonder if it is good or bad not to have contention among the women.

The results from the elite sprint are here. (Sprint for national teams 21/7)

I think it is a very good strategy to choose the team close to the WOC.

Nice!

Nice sprint from Will!

That was a very poorly attended National Team Sprint in general! Too close to WOC?

Hammer:
The sprint was the exact same courses as the ORingen D21 and H21 elite courses that were held an hour earlier. I suspect this was a way of getting people into the sprint race without messing with the O-Ringen elite entries (and prize money). Lots of big names in the ORingen race. But Jonas Leandersson in the National Team sprint beat Emil Svensk's O-Ringen sprint stage winning time by 13 seconds.

and a young lady did pretty well too.

Yeah, great race by Emma! She'd be right in the middle of the Women's elite field.

I see Damian was the top Canadian in the middle today. Does that mean he and Brian May will be running the WOC middle for Canada and Will + Robbie will be running the WOC long? Or, is it more complicated than that?

Very solid team, but certainly one with expectations.

I'll do a Canadian WOC preview closer to the start unless someone beats me to it.

Maybe we can have a thread of WOC country previews?

Thanks AZ. Since you brought this up though, I am curious about Emma not in the Sprint Relay. She did well at JWOC Sprint and the National Team Sprint at Oringen and I think she is Canadian National sprint champion (?). It's no big deal to me but just curious.

carlch: "personal wishes of the athletes" factored into the sprint relay selection.

Damian's blog says he is running the sprint relay. Is that accurate?

AZ:
Some changes to the announced team could happen, in case of injuries or runners deciding not to run a particular race, etc., in which case the discretion of the National Team Coach & Selection Committee will be used to fill these spots.

In the case of the Sprint Relay Robbie declined his spot, opening the position, and screwing up my long post ;-)
