Is Daniel Hubmann the first person to win WOC gold in each of the five different disciplines with his middle gold yesterday?
No, since he have not won the sprint relay yet, just as Thierry.
Ah yes it was Martin Hubmann last year that was on that winning team. So the brothers together can claim they have won them all. :-)
While my perusal has not been exhaustive, there are three people who have completed the pre-Sprint Relay slam (the "Niggli"), winning gold in the sprint, middle, long, and relay:
- Simone Niggli, 2003 (trivially obvious)
- Thierry Gueorgiou, 2011
- Daniel Hubmann, 2015
A much broader set is the set of people who have medaled in the major four events; additional members of this list include Matthias Merz, Annika Billstam, Minna Kauppi, Tove Alexandersson, Pasi Ikonen, Helena Jansson, Marianne Andersen, and probably others.
I think Niggli should come out of retirement to win the sprint relay.
Trivia question: Only one person (I think) has medaled in all five events. Who?
And Hammer wins the burrito.
D. Hubmann won sprint gold in 2011
But plenty of people have meddled in all five events.
What about the double Niggli? To win all available titles in the same year? Simone again, 2003 and 2005. There'll do doubt be a few who were both individual champs and in the winning relay team prior to 1991 ('all available titles'), but I suspect nobody else has clean swept since then...
