Very great article! It could be a template for explaining orienteering to any media. Nice photos and extra photos on-line, including the sprint course map.
Go Tracy!!!!

Dramatic finish in the (Elite) Men's Relay between Ukraine and Lithuania. I would love to have access to the splits from the final loop to see how close the two runners were running on the final loop of the final leg, all of whose controls were the same. (Only the first loop was forked.) Two runners stampeded down the finish chute shoulder to shoulder for first place, heading toward two control stands. See David Cady's image https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidcady/2028499841... The runner from Ukraine got a tiny bit ahead on the right of the runner in green (Lithuania), then ran to the *left* Finish punch, blocking his opponent. He slid into the control stand, missing the punch box with his dibbler, breaking the stand, and falling. The runner in green reached over to the *right* finish stand and punched at *about* the same time as the prone Ukrainian punched the box lying on the ground.

I am not certain, but I believe a tie for First Place was declared.

Just added the splits on AP and winsplits. Think for this easier to look at this on winsplits depending on what you want to see.

The final result was a tie and they all bunched in on the podium. No finish line out to make the call so have to go by the punching finish.

It was a great week of competition. The weather was nearly perfect for summertime with cool temperatures and low humidity. It was a lot of work doing six events in five days but we had over 40 ROC volunteers and help from Mark & Barb Dominie, Peter Day, Dave Cady, Sam Levitin and Dave Levine. The Deaf community really appreciated us hosting the event and for most of the competitors it was their first trip to America. It is quite a close knit group and by the end of the week we felt like part of the family. They showered us with praise and gifts at the final banquet. It was an amazing experience.

Delyn, Thanks for the splits. Can you contact me back-channel at levitin at alum dot mit dot edu? I have further questions that would bore readers here.
