| Cliff1291: | hey roger I need some pointer on getting ready for my 50 miler in Octber. I'm do more corss training then running trying to stay ready for your 24 next month. how many miles a week should I be logging for the 50 miler?
I was reading that i should do two long runs back to back (Saturday and Sunday) totaling 40 to 45 miles what do you think |

| Gimpy: | How many miles are you doing now? Start out slow and work up or you will get an overuse injury like I did IT Band.
Long back to backs are good to get your legs used to running when tired. However, there are other things that are just as important...like easy recovery runs, tempo runs and some threshold runs. Which 50 are you doing? |

| roschi: | this is an interesting topic actually:
-i have heredatory very bad hips that have bugged me all my life, my sisters had to switch jobs (non standing up ones) and my grandfather has has 3 hip surgeries... -when i got to seattle and started running regularly i had problems, so getting eased into it is certainly the way to go... all you got to do for a 50 miler is tough it out and i doubt you d have problems wiht that clif! :) -reason why i do long back to backs is because even though its just as hard on my joints like running every day it gets my muscles better used to running long distances... william emerson gave me that tip... |

| Cliff1291: | Hey Glen I would say 30 + miles of road and trails ---looking to move that up to about 40+ miles I will be doing teh firecraker 50 in Castro Valley California in October. |

| Gimpy: | try to bring up your mileage about 10% per week. With less than 2 months left, you may need to step it up a bit more.
My training plans are based on the race but the basic plan should include an interval day on rested legs at threshold (for those hills spurts you will need from time to time) A tempo day at the pace you are intending to run(get those legs used to that pace usually 70% MHR) hills (get used to fast walking up up up long days (building up you probably don't need to do more than 30 at a go but back to back longs are great) And easy recovery runs in between (30mins-1hr at 60-65% MHR The white river 50 course is a great place to train. you can camp at buck creek and do each half on succeeding days. Those are my thoughts but 100 guys could give you 100 different answers |
