big time! :-(

Thanks, I'll decide tomorrow morning. I tried a few cold remedies again and did some in-depth googling about the implications of running 50K with my symptoms. I've improved today but the nights have been bad. Fingers crossed!

...and? I hope you're feeling better
Oct 31, 2015 8:44 AM #
I'm going to try it since I don't think the cold is in my chest, although I'm not totally sure. That's when it can be risky to the heart. I'm better than I was but still sick. At least I'll be feeling rotten in a pretty place!

Good luck.
Though I find the fact that you are posting your decision to go ahead at 4 something am a bit suspicious.

Decision made yesterday! Alarm went off at 4:35 today.

P.S. I finished.

Doesn´t sound like the best way to spend the last couple of days before a major race. Knowing you I bet you still won your category...

There weren't any categories but I was definitely 1st Bat Girl.

Hope you wake up feeling great tomorow

At the moment, even though I ran 2.5 hours longer than 'Bent, it looks like he will be the one in more pain tomorrow. I will be more exhausted.

We're both hobbling tonight but that is normal. I'm coughing but my cold doesn't feel any worse - at least, not yet. I have some bruises and scrapes from a relatively lucky face plant but unfortunately, 'Bent did something to his bad knee. :(

woo first bat girl!

Lucky face plant? I guess you have to take luck where it comes.
Nov 1, 2015 12:29 PM #
That's exactly how you measure the luck of a face plant! It's an unlucky face plant if you hit your head, land any body part on a rock or fall in poison ivy. A few scrapes and bruises are to be expected.

I was back to the coughing fits last night but no surprise there.

Sorry to hear about your husband. He has had some tough luck his last couple races. How did he tweak his knee. Are you doing a race report with pics? Hopefully! Hope you and he get better soon.
Nov 1, 2015 12:42 PM #
I'll see if I can find some pics but I didn't take any. I will write a race report either way!

'Bent had meniscus surgery a few years ago and that is the knee that is hurting. We're hoping it may just have been the small number of long runs leading up to this race. Further damage would not be good.

Did he have a tear in the meniscus that needed stitches or did they remove some damaged meniscus? Was it degenerative or sis it happen from an acute injury. Sorry a bout the probing nature but knees interest me. The insides of them anyway:)

He had an acute injury a year or two earlier but it was a well used knee so the meniscus damage was likely degenerative from years of athletic activity. The surgeon trimmed off about a third of the meniscus. Meniscus repair is typically tried on people under 40 who have had an acute injury - and even then, the location of the tear makes a big difference to the success. The central meniscus doesn't have a terrific blood supply so it doesn't always heal easily.

Found some pics, thanks to excellent photographer Ilona Dobos and a very active race Facebook page and group!

Love the pics!

And don't those Millers look like just a miserable couple :-)

Hope 'Bent's knee is recovering, and I hope there is no swelling. In my experience pain alone is not always a terrible thing, but (significant) swelling usually indicates a bigger problem and longer recovery.

That's encouraging - thanks!

Love the costume! Looks like a great course.

Thanks FB, no swelling and pain is down a lot 3 days later. Probably not serious damage.
