As Orienteering Australia's Technical Director, I personally rate the control descriptions thread as being of even less interest than the recent debate about accepting late entries :)

But also, because we tend to stick fairly closely to IOF requirements/processes even for state level events, we have had control descriptions at the pre-start for many years - so the Aussies can't understand what all the fuss is about!

I think we'd benefit a lot in the US if our races stuck closer to IOF guidelines, on a broader range of issues than just where to pick up descriptions, but a lot of people seem pretty satisfied with the status quo. Whatever makes it easier on the event organizers seems like it should generally be the answer!
