Lamp body getting hot is a good sign. It means heat gets transferred to the body at least somehow. Also lamp not stepping down when running means airflow makes difference. If there is no good enough thermal path the lamp would step down even with or without airflow. And it might overheat and step down even when lamp body is cool, worst lamps jsut bake led plate and driver inside the body for no thermal part to the body..
Jukola nights can be pretty warm. If it steps down now at +7C when walking, will it stay at high when running at +15C? Would be annoying if you climb/walk up big steep hill and lamp steps down just before you get all the way up and spot the control. I'd open it up (screws at bottom hidden by head band bracket) and make sure there is thermal grease between led plate and body around.
I have second neutral 2 led lighthead (backup lamp). I could borrow it if you feel like trying. Unfortunately I live here middle of nowhere, far from all the action.
