Ha! I bet you were the only one in the group in spikes! Orienteers win.
Yeah... it's certainly nice to have several trail shoes to choose from. I chose my beefy spikes (Salomon Spikecross) because I felt like 5 miles was long enough to warrant cushioning for my sore foot. The Spikecross are also pretty weatherproof, which I figured I'd want since it I thought it would be really muddy, but not raining (sometimes I'd opt for meshier shoes so the water goes out easier).
Turns out, they were the right choice because of the snow!
