We did 8x50 on 60s as the last part of the warm up tonight - each pair a smudge quicker than the previous. My first two I hoped for around 53 and swam slowly.... for 46!!! Oops. Then 47. Reps 5 and 6 were 'solid' at 45s, and the last two 'somewhat hard' at 43-44. Ridiculous how a teeny bit of fatigue affects the following reps, and just how 1s faster can be the difference between what feels like 95% effort and 60% effort. Ish.
agree with you there tooms - I aim for my cruising pace for swim training to be 60s and typically it ends up 60-63.5 depending on how far I am going.
If I have a rest after each 25 I can keep the rests fairly short but if I do a 50, not trying to swim fast, just trying to keep reasonable form, my arms get really tired in the last 10m and I need a long rest afterwards.
I used to do all my swim intervals going on 60s per 50m but now I need at least another 60s rest after just one 50. I think my best session was 10x100 all just under 1:30, going on 2min but I'm not sure I could complete a single 100 in under 2min now.
Yes, your swimming training has been nice and consistent, but probably lacking a touch in frequency ;-)
