I may be doing the 25 k. I contemplatated not coming as my leg not good but desperate for a nights sleep away. I think 50 km would be unbearable.

if I were a doctor I might prescribe a road trip, three bottles of wine and jogging the kids race.

And now know why i am not a doctor.

Hey, don't dis the switch to 50k!

Y'all are going to be very tipsy by the time I finish my race... :)

That's the plan. ;) There is a beer tent and of course there will be margaritas available. (Actually, I'll be lucky to stay awake if I have even one drink after a 50K.)

STORM, I'm so sorry that I "signed you up" for the 50 miler, then Dee and I both bailed on it!

It is good for Storm, he does not have to wait for anyone after the race now.

Doing Hockley tomorrow it will help me make my decision.

Yes, we will have a better post-race Mexican dinner now. Time to start doing some research on that!

What I meant there was just go, have fun and don't worry about how far. There's always another race and when you do enough of them a few inevitably don't work out.

Agreed, that's why I switched - although they haven't confirmed it yet so maybe I haven't!

This race is 6.5 months out from a major 2016 goal race so it was intended to be the kick-off for a half-year of serious training. For now, I am drinking wine, which helps too. :)

And... as soon as I wrote that, the RD wrote and confirmed my switch to 50K. Yay. I think that's a first; usually I'm an idiot about these things.

What is your goal race for next year barb? Or is it too early to disclose?

Not at all - it's on my upcoming events calendar so it's no secret!

As soon as I got home from UTMB last summer, I started looking for a new mountain race. I'd given UTMB my best try and it was time to move on. I picked the 119K Lavaredo Ultra Trail in Cortina, Italy, which is said to be the most beautiful ultra in the world. I'd hoped to enter the 2015 race but I needed 2 UTMB points to get into the lottery last October and unfortunately didn't know that one of my 2014 races was assigned points well after it happened (likely after the lottery so it may not have worked anyway).

I did the 2015 Eiger Ultra Trail in Switzerland instead - another Ultra Trail World Series race that was also spectacularly beautiful. My enthusiasm for Lavaredo was contagious and this fall, a number of people I know entered the lottery and we all got in for 2016. Others will be coming along to run Lavaredo's sister races, which are 20K and 47K

So I'm keen to get well and start training. It's lousy timing to have lost so much fitness and we're entering the season when it's harder to train specifically for this kind of run. Anyway, I look forward to getting ready.
