Discussion: Hotmail

tRicky I can't reply to your emails because you're on that cheapskate hotmail service, which my posh server can't abide, and automatically fails to deliver. Replies to your emails are:
1. Fence wire is not 2.1m wide (5.6m if you add the tag). I know i was out by a factor of 10, but you can't draw a road with a path next to it and then a fence next to that without a serious displacement issue.
2. Yokine is my home map, and I've been busy drawing one or two new ones every year since 2005. Maybe I'll have a rest next year.

Maybe change to gmail?

1. We've had this discussion before but I doubt half the features we draw in OCAD are scaled correctly. We still draw normal fences and they're not 2.1m wide either, nor is a high fence any wider than a low fence but the symbol is.

2. Are you the only person who's allowed to set on Yokine? Ten years is a long time to go without using it.

I'm sure any other email server has just as much chance of crashing or doing stupid things as Hotmail does so I'm not going to change to a new one, let all my contacts know and then change again at a later time because the new one decides to play up. Plus I'd be guaranteed to miss some updates and so would still need to keep checking it all the time and I really can't be bothered having multiple accounts. Maybe it's iiNet that's being problematic and you need to change.

Gmail is effective tRicky - companies use it. They wouldn't if it had access issues / problems. It has its quirks, but they're not broken things.
iiNet is extremely reliable.
Hotmail is ancient and not liked by the e world these days as it's poor quality, spammers heaven etc.

Bite the bullet, put an out of office message on your hotmail* and simply import your contacts to Gmail. Easy. Or, on principal, refuse to do something because of your strong will power. (aka bloody mindedness!). It's Principle, mannn!

*probably can't do it as it's designed for the late 1990s...

Companies use Microsoft products too and we all know how shit they are.

I wouldn't have a clue how to import the few contacts that I was able to put into my Hotmail account before Outlook decided to redesign how contacts work and I was unable to create anymore without having to add them all as besties that would probably be subject to all the same spamming crap that I deal with.

Pretty sure gmail has a importer from hotmail.

Also pretty sure you can extract from hotmail and import manually to any provider.

Also don't mis a thing just out a redirect on your hotmail so it forwards all your emails to gmail.

Will it forward Simmo's iiNet emails that didn't get through?

I like how you think that Hotmail has that function ;-)

I know. I KNOW!!!

There is a solution to this problem....

Ricky and I should get a JOINT email account called Tash& and then we can all ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after until Gmail dies a horrible death.

Yeah something better will come along to replace it and then Tooms will get on his high horse and tell us to change to something else.

Actually I just had a look and Hotmail does indeed have the ability to forward emails, in certain conditions. However, I could just put one condition 'with attachment' and one condition 'without attachment' and that'd cover everything.

Speaking of which, I actually do have an iiNet account set up but I'll be damned if I know how to access it.

Really though, is not receiving emails from Simmo a good enough reason for me to change servers? I'd think it'd be a greater incentive to stay with who I've got!

Mind you, I also didn't receive the employment agreement from my employer last week so that didn't work out all that well. Neither did I receive an email from myself at work.

Or get your own domain and never be hassled again.

Suggestions for a tRicky domain anyone?

A lame one would be

Here's a domain I may be interested in.

If you stop sending me emails I won't need to reply to a failed hotmail address.

My emails get to tRicky's account. But his emails are quarantined as suspected spam or phishing making me press buttons and question whether his emails are really worth the effort! ;-)

Weird that Juffy's iiNet account has no issues sending to me.
Nov 27, 2015 12:41 AM #
I've still got a hotmail account too, but I haven't actually checked it in years. It's linked to the email addresses that I actually use for the benefit of those who never got the message that I use a different account now. Seems to do the job.

Simmo, two questions:
* What failure message do you get when your emails to tRicky get bounced? Can you copy/paste it in here?
* What's your outbound mail server? (aka. SMTP server, should be in your account settings in your mail client)

As tRicky said, I've never had a problem sending emails to him (or Bryce's equally dodgy Yahoo account), which makes me think it's something in your config.

Juffy, if you call iinet's support, there is a message telling you about their problem with hotmail - the message has been there at least 3 weeks. Yesterday I put a question in my toolbox asking why is it taking so long to fix, and they texted me back: 'We apologise for the issues you are having with your email account. Microsoft services are currently blocking all emails to hotmail/live/*. We are currently working with them to rectify the issue.'
* Presumably they mean MS is only blocking emails from iinet customers.

I've had no problems with emails to hotmail accounts previously, and haven't changed any settings (incoming and outgoing are both

@ Tooms: I think anti-spam/phishing software does block hotmail emails as a matter of course. You have to add the sender to your 'safe list' (but maybe you don't want tRicky on your safe list? :-)

I don't want to make it easier for his grotty account to be able to spam me. Mind you, iinet and my antivirus stop pretty much everything!

I've been copping the same issues trying to email one of the Eventor guys with a address. Same as Simmo, I've listened to the iinet support message several times over the past few weeks.
