Whoever said that was wrong, even 30 years ago. But what is the best area in England outside the Lake District?

Without thinking very hard I am going to say Mytchett.

a sand dune area? Penhale? Brauton (or Braunton?) Burrows?

I think the best area in England has to have trees on it. Never been to Penhale. Braunton Burrows was pretty good I suppose.

New Beechenhurst?

It's "Braunton". Weird. (not weird!) ;)

New B-hurst wasn't particularly great 8 days ago - it was OK, but....

Perhaps this time of year, after mild weather & exceptional rainfall, most areas feel a bit .... grim?

Frostbite - How have you managed to avoid Penhale?? I've even been to events there twice since leaving the UK.

As for Wharncliffe, not even the best in Sheffield. Tankersley's much better and there are plenty of other areas I'd prefer to run on.

Loxley Common - best Sheffield area
Brown Clee otherwise (only joking)

I used to like Crich Chase.

I think Penhale is closer to New Zealand than it is to Leeds, isn't it?

When the JK was there Stanley was about 1 month old.

Neil, I would have thought Charlton Forest was your best English forest.
