I think you'll find "A" and "The" refer to whether or not it's on the map, not whether there's more than one.

I haven't yet been able to correct our local setters in the use of "A" versus "The".

However, I still think of the Glenelg tram line as being one single route even though it has been extended to the entertainment centre.
