Pin it into your pocket, so that it's not dependent on the zipper. It's a general approach I take to things, the most blatant being that everything on the hang glider is on a safety leash, because if you drop something from the air, it's gone. If anything critical goes into a pocket along with something I might want to access, the critical things get secured in there (for flying as well as in other circumstances). Alternatively, I just don't take things with me, I leave them at the car. (This works fine for the remote places I fly, but clearly the neighborhood of Forest Park is a different situation.)
