Have you tried
these? They are great for winter running.
I prefer icebugs for winter running, or if things are really bad, I like Kahtoola microspikes. Yaktrax are 3rd choice, and I don't think I have worn them the last few years. They break too easily, and less traction than the sturdier, pointier microspikes.
I did have a pair, they broke when Tom was wearing for a snowy o-meet in Rochester. I would have loved having my Icebugs! Problem is needing to fly for Christmas holidays now - only so many shoes fit! Don't own Kahtoola's yet, may at some point, but mostly in the winter if there is snow I want to ski!!
Kahtoolas are much sharper and sturdier than Yaktrax. Pretty hard to use Yaktrax for running, particularly trail running, without breaking them. They are nice for getting your mail or something like that, but not really suitable for the kind of punishment an orienteer or trail runner would dish out. Icebugs rock, of course.
