I had already committed to helping Wayne with the Oldenburg bird count.
When ICO first planned the event, I had asked Rob if I could come and run late, about 2, and he had thought it would work. But it turned out that the scout camp had another group in the afternoon, and the event director decided to do a Score-O with a mass start at 10. So that made it impossible to do both.
And, it turned out that they ran out of maps, anyway, and due to the scout camp restrictions and mass start format, they couldn't just recycle maps and let people run late. (although there is a print shop under 20 minutes away, where they conceivably could have made some quick copies and probably started additional people by 11).
