Let me know if you find anywhere to run around the resort... the google map didn't look promising. I might have to hit up the rowing machine instead.

Yeah, I treadmilled today. I'll let you know - someone tweeted about running outside from hear, but I agree didn't look too promising!

A sprint map of the 1st level of the hotel including atrium would be awesome though... =)

Haaa I was thinking the same thing about the atrium (though beware the alligator)!
I will probably do some steady state rowing tomorrow afternoon and then venture outside to try out the running Wednesday. 1500m repeats around the perimeter?? There is quite a bit of grass on the satellite image.
Possibilities:

How are you doing with mornings? Outdoor run attempt at 7am tomorrow (Wed)? Something like 4-5 miles? I might like to end via the supermarket to make breakfast < $10...

Who needs a bridge? Just jump on the alligators...

Wow - I was trying to figure out how it could be so bad to go for an outdoor run, but those are impressive Google maps images. You're in an island of resort, surrounded by parking lot, surrounded by mostly uncrossable water and highways.

Sounds like you need to get some sympathetic people on future conference organising committees (or get on them yourself) to find suitably training-friendly venues.

I was once involved with a conference where, the way the number of sessions worked out, we needed to have one day when it was a 9am start rather than an 8.30 one, and we made it the Thursday because that's my (and Andy Hogg's) long run day....

Alligators aside check out all that premiere orienteering sprint terrain in Orlando - from Main Street USA to Diagon Alley!

Shouldn't astronomy (notice how I didn't say astrology like Cristina does) conferences have the sessions at night? ;-)

Well, did just get out of a really great 7.30-9pm session, but think that's it for the night... =)

My best conference-O was the AAS meeting in Indianapolis. Thanks to Rob M. providing maps, I took off after the afternoon sessions, orienteered, camped right on map, orienteered and made it back to the first morning session.

Tomorrow am going to brave the parking lot run, will see how it goes...

hey, you had a conference at McMaster two years ago and got some good O in then too - and if you had known you were going to be away during the 2013 nationals you could have pre run the women's Cdn Champs courses while in town as well.

For me the best conferences was American Geophysical Union two years ago. It kicked off with the San Fran sprint camp.

Oh yeah! Definitely, that was great too! Seattle last year also got to run UW sprint after the fact. Alligators are scaring me from running off-road here...

I went to a conference in Orlando a few years back. Definitely worst place ever in terms of useful places to go running. Or maybe just in general.

I presume uncrossable water features are taken seriously on Florida orienteering maps (for much the same reason as they are in the Northern Territory).
