Simon's just jealous because Bridget's going on a family holiday and he's not?

I'd long thought I'd more or less grown out of the Gold Coast by the time I was about 16 - we used to go there in the May holidays, as they then were. Our timing wasn't always good, as I discovered a few years back on doing a database search for extreme May rainfalls in southeast Queensland and saw some familiar dates popping up - 7 May 1980, 12 May 1983, 10 May 1987....(although the last of these did give me the opportunity to find out what it's like to go for a run on a 359-millimetre day).

Wet and wild is the best place to go when it's raining.

Oh - and the late 1980s being the glory years of the Gold Coast white shoe brigade, I discovered that 15 is not too young for someone to try to sell you an apartment in a dodgy development whilst you're walking down a Surfers Paradise street.

Oh wow, that's hilarious!
