Discussion: Accommodation for US & Canada at Swiss O Week

in: Swiss-O-Week 2016 (Jul 16–23 - Saint Moritz, Grisons, CH)

USA Junior Michael Laraia is spending his gap year training for orienteering in Europe. He has a lead on relatively inexpensive group accommodations at Swiss O Week, and we'd like to invite US and Canadian orienteers (and their friends) to join in the adventure. Costs are about 23 CHF/day; breakfast + dinner for 15 CHF/day. A pretty darn good deal. Dorm housing. You will take on kitchen duties 2-4 times during the week. We think it would be fun to have some North American bonding in the Engadin! Please email me if interested,

My family plan to go to JWOC and SOW.
What type of rooms and beds are there?
By kitchen duty do you mean cooking and cleaning?

Hello everyone.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us to be able to stay here. Samedan is barely 5 miles from St. Moritz, and these prices are unbelievable as this we're talking about high tourist season in the most expensive region of Switzerland.

The vacation home is a former Engadiner Herrschaftshaus, loosely translated as a manor, and still has some of its original character preserved inside. We will be sharing the home with the OLG Huttwil, which did not get enough of its own members to sign up and now has 30 empty beds.

I can't find any pictures of the beds, but it'll very likely be youth hostel style dorm rooms with bunks. On the floor plan I'm seeing rooms with between 5, 8, 12, 14, and 16 beds each.

It may be important to note that the home will be available for both JWOC and SOW.

I would ask that everyone planning on staying with us fills out this form so that I can provide the proper information to our hosts. Current deadline set for January 30.

The club is planning on providing breakfast and dinner to its members, and has invited us to join in too. The food will be prepared communally, with everyone pitching in at some point or another. I don't have specific details, but I do know that we will be expected to take over some duties in the kitchen, which would include cooking, prepping, and cleaning up afterwards, a few times while we're there.

Here's a picture of the house partially covered Muragl in the background
