Is there enough snow there to justify snowshoes? I am trying to figure out what is the closest north I can drive and find enough snow to play around in!
You won't be wallowing in white stuff but in the northeast tract, there was enough to cover much of the forest floor debris and make for easier bushwhacking with the larger surface area of the snowshoes. The snow is crusty and the snowshoe cleats were invaluable for "Spiderman" descents and ascents. I'd say that snowshoes were the best choice, even though one could still run the main trail in shoes (with ice traction). It's nothing like the powder at Pretty River last January though. :(
Let me know if you're coming up! This could be a fun evening trek too.
I'd like to try to get up in that area sometime before the snowshoe raid next week so I will keep you posted!
