Yeah definitely messed up the distance estimation. Also didn't really notice the vegetation boundary along the dark green, so that's why I expected the neat rows of pine trees only later by the lighter green.
About the hand rail, it was dark and gloomy in this forest, and I could barely make out the vegetation differences, and definitely couldn't see past that looking for subtle contour features.
I think my mistake was to rely on vegetation too much on this one. Looking at Térence's route
he went much straighter and focused on the contour features and knoll clusters. Granted he and pretty much everyone else I talked to messed up this one so maybe this was just a really tough one in the dark
