Do you warm up before hand? If not, I suggest you do as it'll make quite a difference. I find that a 1-2 mile warm up gives me a better performance and a more comfortable "non vom" type run.

I think some faster sprinty intervals might help too :-(

Les Croups Monday night hill intervals will help that.
