I'm no expert in skiing but I definitely think that being lighter makes a difference. You probably have problem "pushing" down your skiis enough and that's why you don't get enough grip. You can try to put "fästvalla" further out on the skiis, but then you will be frustrated about not gliding good enough I guess! ;)
