Sending sympathy. Home repair is one of the things I hate and avoid the most. So many times, I've been ripped off, had poor quality work done, seen mistakes made or sat waiting for a guy who never came (sorry, but it's always a guy). There's so much stuff that needs to be done around our place but I just can't bring myself to go through it again!

It's so hard to find a good contractor/repair dude. We finally found one we like & trust. I feel your pain.

You're all reinforcing our intent to do as much of this ourselves as possible if we find a good project for gap year...

I swear by Angie's List, it's worth every penny to find good service folks.

Angie's List is how we found our contractor.

Was this the small business guy that you were concerned that your deposit was going to disappear?

Thanks Barb! Good to know that I am not the only one stymied by home repair.

I will take the AL accolades to heart and join it before I do my next project.

Yes, that's correct, John. Ironically, deposit check still not cashed, but I am very happy with the carpet runner installation, which was almost the amount of the deposit, so the money is no longer a concern.

Sadly, the vinyl sheet install is poorly done. There are little and bigger air pockets all over which make noise as I walk on them. I do not think the glue was applied correctly.

It looks great, until the sunlight splashes across the floor. And, they miscut the length, so there are additional seams on each side of the stove which shouldn't be there, and glue is coming out of there.

He tried to put very light quarter round down, even after it was made very clear that the darker sample was desired. So, he is supposed to be back, but I almost hope he doesn't come back, and I'll start over.
