I can remember trying to scrabble together enough items for the required number of ID points to register a car in Darwin when my passport and birth certificate were in Melbourne. (Somewhat to my disappointment, a story in the NT News with my name and picture in it didn't count as a recognised form of ID).

Working with children card. Yes I don't suppose most Aussies travel within Australia carrying their passport or birth certificate!
