Looks like that would have been a faster route. Am I missing something, or did you just not see it while you were out there?

The trails were barely discernible from the general woods, a slight tread way with light white blazes. Very rocky and rooty. I did use that one for some of the way but not too much difference between the two.

Agreed, open woods, good visibility, not much of a trail.
