real wilderness in places! road surface was utter shit climbing up from El Escorial, but this made the climb more wild I guess. the cross over into Castille y Leon was great, big swooping downhills through pine forests with streams and huge granite outcrops. The little village of Peguerinos was very quiet and seemed deserted, but if there is one thing i love about long rides in Spain - every quiet little pueblo has at least two bars that are open, have good food and decent coffee.

its cracking country, beautiful orienteering terrain but also I can imagine the pleasure of riding through those pine forests.
Have you been up Valle de Los Caidos,? It is quite something - in a variety of ways
