Yes agree they are a bit funny when the team clears the course. Those two guys are mates from work and pretty handy runners, Dan is also v good on the mtb.

yeh shouldn't call them bozos - not their fault rules are weird. Although looking on strava it looks like they did a couple of things we weren't allowed to do. they ran away from us at the start between Painter and Aranda but when we saw them again on Black Mtn (in the bush) they looked like they were struggling.

Haha glad we didn't come back ahead of Marty and Mark then - I'd have got in a big boo. One would think that capping scores at the maximum available would avoid this happening.

Yeh a cap at the maximum would be sensible. Have you entered for the paddy pallin 6hr yet Jase?

Uncle JiM:
Would a cap on the maximum work? If the novice pair got all but 2 controls in less time than the other team get all, they would still be 1st

Well no, but it'd be better than not doing it. Any kind of handicap system in conjunction with age and gender categories is asking for trouble really.

Aaanyway, paddy pallin 6hr should be a laugh. Shame it's the week before Easter so that's gonna count me out.

@robw yeh might give the 6 hr a miss. You note here we were only out for 2.5hrs and I think that was enough.

@Craney there was enough 'boo' going on at results without you being there. If the novice pair had beaten marty & mark I reckon there would have been some loud 'boo'!

Ha, don't start me on bonus/novelty points. At our 3hr end of year minigaine you can get bonus points for:
fancy dress (50)
facebooking a photo of your team on course (20)
novice (100)
child under 9 (50)
and there was a lot of confusion among the admin team about whether a child under 9 who hadn't rogained before could also count for the novice points! Previously it was that prams/pushers gained bonus points but the argument was made that it's much easier to push a pram than to drag around a 4 year old who insists on walking themselves. Also, one junior team requested and received points for carrying a toy pram!

If those were the rules on weekend Jenny I reckon Craney would've run fancy dress, pushed Florence in a pram and took a FB photo of it all! Just looked at official results and looks like Novice worth 50pts.

Haha funny rules, surely it does more to annoy the established competitors than attract novices?
Feb 8, 2016 4:03 AM #
You guys should have claimed all three of you as novices, I think you only have to have not done a rogaine in 5yrs, you could have got 150pts!!
Feb 8, 2016 11:25 AM #
I don't have any problem with novelty points if the event is clearly advertised as a novelty event - that way everyone knows before they go in that the results won't necessarily match up with performance and if that's not what you want then you can give it a miss.
Feb 9, 2016 9:11 AM #
@rob grant definitely would qualify. He reckoned his last rogaine was with Bill Heffernan!!! You probably don't even know who he is!

@blair not sure if advertised. I'm not known for reading pre race instructions...

The well-advertised prospect of a team's potentially getting 220 points before even finding a control lured nearly 400 competitors (one was even registered despite being in utero) to our Minigaine. The novice 100pts could only be claimed once per team though.
