Snow. it melted on the area by the time we left, but the higher slopes of Dartmoor were still all white on the horizon! surprised as 2.5 - 3 degrees....

You clearly didn't go very high up...

Regarding today - lots of Level C races equidistant from Bristol. Highlights once again that SWOA doesn't enforce its fixture rules to DEVON (and QO) anywhere nearly as harsh as it does on, say, BOK, NWO and NGOC - specifically the ban on holding level C's in region on same day as Galoppen. Suppose it's a cynical viewpoint to suggest that whole SWOA committee is made up of DEVON (and QO)...

Result is that WSX Galoppen got less than 200 for putting on a race for SWOA that should have fairly captive market (SWOA...) - clubs needs to realise that there's getting to be too many "big" races clashing, so registering as a C won't guarantee attendance any more. Maybe now is a time to (re)start questioning the value of the Galoppen league and whether the regional associations actually serve any useful purpose at all?

That said, the Devon did sound like the better option from Bristol - better length and climb at least, and shorter drive - and sounds like you had a good run!

Thanks Richard! Yeah we decided on Devon, and I'm glad we went. I was up for TVOC too, but on balance, Dartmoor was well worth it.

I don't know the ins & outs of SWoA fixtures, but if few people went to WSX event, that;s a shame. Not sure how many got to Devon today, as results aren't up yet. The car park was pretty small though....

But they have the results of a first aid course up though (or a link of some sort in results section!!!) not even BOK do that

Don't go giving them ideas please!

Clashes can be a bit unfortunate - but can only assume that Devon did not think many of its people would go to New Forest, and that having a race closer to home would best serve their membership (and they are probably right). Just an acknowledgement that a regional league doesn't really work when its long and thin like SW is - has been dying for years and is now almost dead so maybe now is the time to let it go for good and allow clubs to just do their own thing.

Devon have a history of making crap races out of brilliant areas - looking at the GPS plots looks like the best course I've seen on Haytor/Hound Tor - would quite like to have run it myself!
