Do I go 'hard' or 'sort of a bit harder than hard but not very hard' though? I reckon I just go flat out early, die partway around and let Bryce and Tash carry me in the rogaine.

Just go hard on the lap around the stadium so that you get in a good position before the stairs start. It's quite difficult to overtake, you just have to hope others will let you pass.

Not much point in that. My start time is 4:24 with starts every minute from 4pm and 8-10 in each group. I'm going to get held up as soon as I hit the stairs I reckon.

Actually I just checked and there are 107 people (roughly) starting in front in 24 waves so that's 4.5 people per group but mine has nine in it. That doesn't work out at all!

Also in the participant booklet it says 'check your seeded start time'. I don't know how this can possibly be seeded. Given it's for MS, they must have looked at the last stair race they organised, saw that I'd finished 3rd and just said 'Well you're good so we'll seed you in the middle somewhere to motivate everyone else'.

Upon closer inspection, I notice that 4:01, 4:03, 4:08, 4:13, 4:16 and 4:19 are unused, then they start loading up the groups from 4:20 onwards. So I still have ~107 people to get past and then of course upon completing the first lap, I'll start encountering people on my second who are still on their first.

So what will work best for you - individual interval starts every minute and then a half hour gap, then more interval starts?

Just weird that they have a few gaps in there but now that you mention it, it is one minute interval starts (sort of) for half an hour, then they slot in all the mini-climb people (4:30-4:50), then go back to full climb, then all the half climbers. Given that the full climb starts anti-clockwise around the top level and the mini-climb clockwise from the bottom, that's effectively giving the 4:50 people a 20 minute break in people (except we'll all be on our second lap, so whatever).

Anyway, having people in front of me gives me incentive to mow them down, as I discovered this morning when Christophe went past on Forrest Dve and I suddenly found leg power I didn't realise I had. Works for me! I'm just glad I didn't get slotted in at the 4:50 mark because I'd NEVER make it to the rogaine on time and Bryce would get upset.

Last year they just started all the full climb individuals together (about 80-100 of us), then all the full climb fancy dress teams, then a gap before the half-climb, then the mini-climb. They did end up with confusion over the number of laps, and with the half- and mini-climbers getting in the way of faster people on their second lap, but it doesn't seem that what they are doing this year will solve any of those issues - probably make it worse.

Mass start with 100 people, what could possibly go wrong? Apparently they have timing mats around the course and you can't record an official time unless you cross them all.
