bench press - are you talking, plates only, plates and bar or just one side plates? just trying to understand the quantum of your jump.
plates only - 20-25 total weight without bar
plates and bar - would mean 5kg plates - 20kg bar
one side plates - would mean 25kgs 1 side - 50 kgs both sides + bar 20kg = 70kg
He is talking the first option. I don't think many people actually add the weight of the bar...
No it's pretty much 25kg total weight. The bar weighs virtually nothing, which probably explains why it is bowed. I'm not trying to build muscles, just working on upper body strength for better control of the bike (I think that's why I'm doing it anyway).
However, Tash left a plate at my house that doesn't match the rest of my crockery. It's kind of like the fork someone left after a rogaine barbecue and now I don't know what to do with it. That plate doesn't weigh much either.
It's not an Olympic bar bryce, tRicky would stuggle to lift that without bilateral shoulder bursitis or tears. (rhymes with stairs, but could I suppose be the other meaning too).
yeah I wasnt sure tooms - because when I record I do it ex the obar weight and often just 1 sides weight for short hand.
E.g. 10 would = 40.
which is contrary to most who would say 20 and mean 40 unless not using obar at which at - 20 = 20 :)
#glad thats cleared up.
yes a 25% increase is too much unless the earlier weight was pathetically easy :)
Shorthand WTF? How much harder is it to type 40kg than it is 10kg? I'm pretty sure in the Olympics if they say they're lifting 170kg, they're not just including the weights on one side of the bar. Makes sense to me.
You probably don't want to know about my 50% increase from 10kg to 15kg when I first started then.
lol - when I am stacking weight in the gym - I just put them on and write the weights down for the 1 side - that way next week its not like oh wait what did i do 60, 20 each side. i just see 20 - k go - very little difference I know, just how I have always recorded it.
I think it stems from dumbell use where if you are lifting 10's you are moving 20. so I take the same approach which loading obar I am lifting 10's its 10 each side. eh. much of a muchness.
Is it called an O bar because it improves your O abilities? Should you be using a R bar for this weekend?
im not using any bar - and if I was it would probably be to get drunk
Spoken like a true rogainer. No wait, they don't drink.
Before, during or after??
Depends on whether or not there is a port control...
They don't drink when DSR is present.
25kg does seem awfully light - do you do like 100 reps? Back when I was young and even punier I used to do 3 sets of 15 x 50-60kg during a one hour session of various exercises.
Way to make tRicky feel bad. A few weeks ago he could do about 3 push ups. You've got shoulders in a nice alignment, tRicky's are shit and you can guarantee he hasn't had any advice from his illegitimate mumbo-jumbopath practitioner as to why he's such a mess and could be better... i.e. stable scapulas = better force production.
Were you looking through rose tinted glasses when viewing my shoulders?
I know tRicky liked positive reinforcement through engaging in Attackpoint banter but reality sucks doesn't it?
Didn't you grow up lugging sacks of spuds around?
I worked in a brewery when I was a student and used to lift beer barrels, how are my shoulders coach?
Well I figure rather than starting at 100kg and putting myself in hospital, I'll start easy and work my way up. Like I said, I'm not trying to get sculpted pecs, biceps or whatever - it's all just for better control on the bike.
Also no I only did 20 reps of 25kg then another 20 of 20kg at the end, plus all the other activities I throw into a session. The bench we have isn't exactly made for it either. It's only knee height, it doesn't have one of those things where you can put the bar at the top and I don't have anyone spotting for me.
Me and my little 2kg hand weights are in awe...
Lots of reps tRicky, that gives a much better sense of perspective - you'd be much closer to Eoin's number if you were warmed up well and did a 1RM. (you're correct, no need at all for you to do heavy lifts with very few reps).
I stopped at 20 because my arms got tired.
